i would prefer to do this properly but this Laptop doesn't allow copy/pasting it seems.. go to the stickied "for folding users, tips, tricks and faq"   in the folding/boinc section, then, pretty much literally at the very top of the page you will see a spoiler banner With the description of the requirements, click on it.

Basically, for the first member/contributor badge, you need to do 21 work units for the team, using our team number "223518" to qualify, then you PM a mod, preferably Whaler_99 and they will sort you out With the badge, first of all you need to be folding for Our team.

The chances are that he doesn't have a "good" GPU and is just using a laptop but you never know but if he is using an average notebook, expect up to 3 days per unit (from personal experience xD

it really isn't, 3 days per wu? 3x21= 63  63/7=9  about 2 months in a worst case scenario, that's more than feasible, it is supposed to show that you are dedicated to the team.

although i wouldn't want to fold 24/7 on a laptop for 2 months, or fold on a laptop at all really.. that's what we got the chrome app for.

well you could consider the chrome app, depends on your laptop really,  if you got the temps under control and have a laptop with somewhat decent airfllow, no reason to switch unless you are worried, according to your sig you have a several thousand dollar machine though..

Wait that doesn't really make sense since some WU's are much smaller than others. The WU's that the Chrome app gives you to do can be finished by my MacBook Pro (on CPU) in 25-30 min...

How long would it take on an APU?

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

gpu folding can do that to your machine, you could try just folding on the cpu while using it, or it shouldn't always be as bad, might get better or worse with different wu's.

If you're using all of the threads of your CPU, yeah, it's going to make the rest of your environment feel sluggish.  Without getting into advanced settings, if you just use the "Light" folding function in web/advanced control, it only uses some of your cores.  I've got 4 core/8 thread, and Light uses 2 cores/4 threads.  The remainder is more than enough to maintain a perfectly smooth desktop experience, internet browsing, YouTube, etc all seem unaffected.  I haven't tried gaming while folding on light, but I don't really plan on it.

i folded for awhile on the 6870 then for 1 day on my 780 and had 5 WU's, just started again the other day and have done 20WU's in less than a week, 780 seems to fold like a dream.

Depends on your hardware, the better your hardware, the faster it should be able to complete a work unit and thus doing more WU's more often.

for each wu you complete you receive a varying amount of points, a wu is a single workload you receive, than you download, finish, and upload, then you receive points based on what wu it was, how quick you finished it etc etc, you complete work units as long as you are folding, and you can check how many you have completed by looking at your stats on the folding at home website.

http://fah-web2.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userstats

you will rack up wu's very fast because the web plugin wu's are teeeny weeeny small, and you finish them in no time at all.
