Looking to do a research paper on Bitcoins for my Senior Project

I need a topic to do research on based on computers (because my product is a computer I built). I have a bunch of news articles and stuff from our database, but what do you guys recommend? I was thinking of focusing on how they relate to real money (cripto-currency vs paper money), how viable it is, how secure it is, if it will last (as in if it will crash), how many companies accept it, and such. Any suggestions would be great!

Why not something related to cpu architecture,or how they work,or how an os works.Dunno what to say about cripto currency they are pretty much useless and not that fascinating

There are rumors that the governments of the world are considering switching to cryto-currency to replace paper money.

Cryptocurrencies are incredibly fascinating, I know people who have written enourmous amounts about it and there is plenty more to come. As for it being "pretty much useless" it is clear that you have made no effort to do any research about them (outside of the mainstream media) as they have many very valid uses already.

i would like to point out that paypal is now working with coinbase

http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/08/paypal-bitcoin/

If PayPal adopt Bitcoin it could change the state of play entirely. This is very interesting and no doubt troubling to many large businesses out there (the banking sector is made up of businesses after all).

OP there is a wealth of information out there about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. A good place to start is the bitcointalk.org forum where a lot of the discussion about Bitcoin and other cryptos happens. Here you can find out pretty much anything from the basics to in depth info like how public private key cryptography works. This is also where many altcoins are first released and discussed, so it is an invaluable source for altcoin info. You should first collate the information you have from major news articles to create a good introduction and explaination of the concept then go into more detail about a certain part of the cryptocurrency system.

Trust me that there is plenty of information out there, you just need to seperate the lies from the truth :)

Don't do it. Your grade will randomly fluctuate from c- to a, and that's not good for your gpa.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

There are rumors that the governments of the world are considering switching to cryto-currency to replace paper money.

Sounds like something Alex Jones would say. Except it can only be an Alex Jones that believes there are real governments and not just a bank controlling the world...

It's not just the banks, or a single bank. It's a global consortium of banks and politicians, pretty much anyone that plays the stock market. Our currency (your currency, regardless of where you live) has no true inherent value. Most currency in the world exists electronically. Not to mention that the world economy is currently functioning as a pyramid scheme, albeit the best one ever conceived because as long as the population expansion rate is in the positives, they have more people to buy into the scheme (a pyramid scheme only collapses when there is no one left to buy into it).

If that'll be your topic, be sure to understand that the paper money which you hold is just the same as the cripto-currency...trust. Trust that other people value it the same as you do. The only difference is paper money has a central control which attempts to enforce that amount in reference to other currencies (e.g. Canadian to US dollars) where as crypto-currency are footloose and fancy free.

I only had 5 teachers talk about it with me for 10 hours after they heard what I wanted to do for a topic. Seems like they are interested in a good paper.
