Make glossy plastic look nice

I've just done it on an old graphics card shroud, with these results:

(It isn't quite finished yet, still have to do the other side, and also clean the glossy bit I'm leaving)

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

same :D just looked at my monitor and wondered whether it is a thin film of plastic or a thick layer.

samsung-syncmaster-p2770hd.jpg

I'm also thinking about doing this to my monitor, I have touch buttons on the front though which I'm a bit worried about messing up if I do this... I kind of want to be able to turn it on and off ;) But if I had physical buttons on the side of the monitor I would definitely do this! Without hesitation.

WOW! I love the results of this! Great work! This really shows how great things can get with this technique.

I didn't even use the scouring pad, just some fine grit sandpaper, and a lot of time :)

Oh, so sand paper did work? Nice. I'll have to try it out sometime. :)

It didn't work as well as is shown in the video, the lines don't go deep at all, it's just more like a matt finish rather than a brushed aluminium finish

Ok, I guess the pictures lie a bit ;) It looks amazing though so I have to try it out before I do anything to any device so that I know what method to use.

I really have no idea. I don't know how thick the material is where the buttons are (if the plastic is thinner where the buttons are to make the buttons pressable or if it's just as thick as the rest of the bezel). I don't even know how the technology works in a touch button like that to be honest.

So if no one else knows I guess it's just a matter of testing and if it works it works and if it doesn't, well then that screen is something you use for other experiments like this :P

Should I do this on my Razer Blackwidow. The Blue LED version with glossy look for anyone who doesn't know?

It's all a matter of taste. You gotta be careful with the buttons over the numpad though.

As virtualTune said, you should really only do it if you feel it looks great, otherwise you may be disappointed. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, test this at least once or twice on some device/glossy plastic that you don't care about so that you can practice and also see how it will turn out before. If you don't like it, don't do it. If the result could've turned out better, practice on even more devices/plastic so that when you actually do it to your keyboard it won't be ruined.

Personally, if you want my opinion, I would probably do it. Since I think this looks amazing and glossy plastic on a keyboard tends to get really messy. But again, test this out before you do it so you know what you are doing before.

I'm not sure that it would turn out that great since it's such a big area to do it on. Also since it's a different color than black (and a quite bright one) I don't know how it will work. It may just look scratched up? I don't know.

What should I do with my speakers and the "base?" Should I go up and down on the speakers and the base, or what? The top of the base rotates, BTW.

I believe it won't be so easy because phones usually are not that easy to scratch.... either way, if it ends up looking bad, just buy a case for it :)

Well if you really don't have a use for it then it would be cool to see how you can make it look. If the red color will make it look scratched up or maybe just give it a cool effect. Also if you are able to cover the entire area and getting it straight at the same time.

Do you have any pictures? It would be fun to see what other people manages to do with this technique. Also, what did you do it with, sandpaper or a scouring pad or something else?

A bit hard to see but when comparing against the 1st picture you can really see the difference it has made. Does it feel good to use it like this? Or is the now textured back an annoyance?
