windows event viewer tells you the error...

The only event it displays is

Critical Power-Kernel

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I assume that is when i pressed the reset switch

I am still having this issue and i am a little confused as to what is causig it because it doesnt just occur when in windows but also when using repair tools on windows disc however i have spent several hours in safe mode doing as much normal stuff as possible, using what is available, and it hasnt happened.

is your cpu overclocked or is the bios trying to boost it without you knowing?

Edit: Install whocrashed if you can

I read your posts. My pc is about 1.5 years old. Your event viewer gives u more info than mine. Mine only has the forced restart because mine doesn't restart by itself.

EDIT: Also tried fresh install like you but it freezes during that aswell.

does your motherboard have a code readout?

also check and make sure your ram is seated properly (in proper slots too) and verify all connectors, etc...

My MB doesnt have a code readout. I also removed all componets and reinstalled them all, verified all ram sticks and checked all connections still with no success.

could you check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU? Could it be that you improperly installed the heatsink?

random lockups without BSOD's can be a sign of a faulty graphics card or an overheating CPU. At least that's the case in my experience...

Edit: Just in case you don't know, I'd use Coretemp for CPU temperatures and GPU-Z for GPU temperatures.

All temps are normal. That's what im afraid it might be. Trying to make sure its not software/driver related or something i can solve myself before taking back to store to get checked out. Not sure if any of my components are still under manufacturers warranty. If not dreading the purchase of new gpu.

Duuude. I think you might be getting the same error I am. Check my post here

Is the error I described (?SOD) the same as what you're getting?

It might be linked, though the only similarities in our builds is the same SSD. I'm running a 3930k and 2x R9 290's.

Yeah your (?SOD) error is similar to what happens to me. I haven't had a single BSOD to go on so no idea what it could be. I dont even have a spare gpu to swap out to test it. It happens to me at any time, whether it be browsing web or watching videos, most recently within 2-5 mins of logging in.

EDIT: Sometimes my screen flashes to a colour then goes back to normal and freezes.

I'm not getting the screen flashing. I downloaded whocrashed, and all my BSOD errors are there, but no ?SOD dumps it seems. Have you installed whocrashed?

UPDATE: It now appears to not occur at idle, just sitting at desktop with task manager running. However whenever I start to run programs, watch videos etc. it freezes.
