Asus HD 6850. How much GPU you can get for £35?

Jumper118

I have my Q9550 @4.2GHz right now and it can handle anything I throw at it

I have an X9650 at 3.7ghz (stock voltage) and it's already kickass, combined with a Palit GTX580 3GB it handles games at high to max setting at 1080P just fine. The Yorkfield architecture handles modern games pretty well.....

GOD DAMN SON, WHERE THE HELL DID YOU FIND THIS?

But seriously, I love the shit you do. It's excellent. It is even sexy.

In built it for a good friend. We put more than $1000 into it.

Even my E8500 can handle most games. Core 2 is awesome!

Yeah I actually have a Pentium D Extreme Edition 965 HT in that system overclocked to 5.03GHz. My friend loves it! And it draws over 215W at full load

I love it  :D thats like the same power draw as my spare 8120 but probably the same performance as an e5200.

get some cinebench recordings for us, we dont want this x99 stuff that the tek, LMG, TTL etc etc are doing, we want old reviews of 9800gtx's, 9600gts, athlon 64's, stuff people actually have/had.

I actually built a Pentium D system a few weeks ago with two of those cards

Dear God that cooler is HUUUUGE!!!

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The True Path of the Feathered One. ~ Dimboble-dubabob III

Where did you get your card? I've been toying with the idea of doing a "How much computer can you get for around £100" build and this seems like a great route!

I've been personally looking on eBay. It seems like you can snag up a HD 7870 for under $100 USD or a HD 7950 for around the $100 USD mark. Both of them easily destroy a crossfire HD 6850 setup.  :P

they tend to go for £80 for the cheaper ones, but they have reference or xfx dd coolers, the decent cards go for £100-130. also they've all been mining and so they probably won't overclock that well. i might get one though. If you look at my 6850 CF review you will see that there isn't a single 7870 or 270X that can beat them, i even beat a 280X :)

Maybe in synthetic benchmarks, I would like to see gaming benchmarks where it counts. According to Anandtech, a single HD 6850 can barely perform half as good as a HD 7870. In crossfire you don't fully leverage the second card so according to these numbers you'd never beat a HD 7870 with crossfire HD 6850's at stock clocks. It gets even worse when you stack them up against a similar priced competitor the HD 7950.

I miss my old HD5850 (Single fan) managed amazingly to hit 1225mhz on the coreclock with some voltage, so backing off to 1175mhz core for every day use.

I cannot remember all the details, but had 1500 odd shaders (slightly more amount but less efficient that 6950), overclocked my own card's mem clock to just shy of a stock 6950 bandwidth. 156.7GB/s compared to 160-ish-GB/s

Loved that little beast. (I had overclocked and put to death about 7 4870's and 2 of the 4870x2's in the time before my 5850)

Yet the 5850 lasted a lot longer nearing 5-6 years and then gave to a friend, don't know if its still running, doubtful but who knows, then I got my 7950, then my 290.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I'm running a reference ASUS HD 5870. I was able to bring it to 1 GHz with some volts, but then backed it off as I don't game enough to run it overclocked.

Friend of mine had two of those (ref), different makers, one lasted a few weeks.. RMA'd, then it died again, yet the other one still goes in his GPU4Video offloading rig.

Hard to tell one way or another if their 'known' for dying or not when ya know of things like that..
