Tomb Raider (yes i opened a game. i only used the in game benchmark though :P)

First bench was maxed out, including tress FX and all the AA!

 

Second was at the settings shown in the screenshot.

Good:

The DC Cooler keeps the card freezing cold. On my custom fan profile its doesn't get above 60c

The custom PCB is very nice, you can see the VRM Components, its also matt black and its a non reference design 

Silver heatpipes look good

The price to performance. i don't think you'll find a better card at this price, the gtx460's and hd7770's which have similar performance go for £40-60, the 6850 range from £35-45

 

Bad:

The fan noise is high pitched and is quite loud even at low rpm

Mine has dual 6 pin pcie power connectors for no apparent reason. its a 125W max  gpu and a single 6 or 8 pin would be fine.

Even though its a reference PCB, its a bit short.  

1GB of Vram isn't quite up to 1080p and it maxes out a fair bit, its much better when overclocked though.

Elpida memory :/

The heatsink and shroud have a gap between the i/o and where is starts which make it look imbalanced.

recently got an xfx6870 1gb, i disagreee on the vram problem, 1gb for 1080p is still fine but dpeends on games and settings, for say crysis 2 on advanced at 1080p it shoudl be plenty, however ive used 1.7gb on world of tanks.....not known for textures.
my 6870's dual fans (dd edition) is a bit "whispy" in sound and i agree, but if you're gaming, graphics card noise cant be too much of a problem because of game noise.
I'd review it if anyone wanted.

aaand bottleneck, these things were often used with amd x4's and are badass (as shown by linus' 6870 video) not sure a pentium 4 or 2 would be good enough

Oh yeah it bottlenecks like mad. I only built it because my friend is obsessed with Pentium Ds.

it is from ebay. it came in normal bubble wrap and i was 99% sure it would be dead, but it seems to be ok.

Understand, my friend is still adament that his pentium d 940 and his 9600gt was a great gaming system back when he had it, I look on wondering what he defines as "great gaming"....

that's beautiful though dude. maybe find a pentium d extreme? 2 cores 4 threads......should keep your friend happy.

maybe after i've had a couple in cf i'll sell you one. i'm not planning on keeping it for more than a month :). i would like a 6950 or 6970

I've been thinking about slapping my HD 5870 on eBay and upgrading to a R9 270x or along them lines (can snag em for around $100 on eBay).

in a wierd twist of fate someone comes along with an athlon 4000+ build and starts wailing about how bad the pentium d's IPC is, how much power it draws and how thread count doesnt mean anything because all games are single threaded....

and i dont have many games good for benchmarking

BF3 was free on origin a while ago and runs "well" on 2 or 3 cores even bad onces, can play it on an athlon x2 215 2.7ghz..

Understand, my friend is still adament that his pentium d 940 and his 9600gt was a great gaming system back when he had it, I look on wondering what he defines as "great gaming"....

Yeah I actually have a Pentium D Extreme Edition 965 HT in that system overclocked to 5.03GHz. My friend loves it! And it draws over 215W at full load
