Upgrading to SLI in the future

EpIcPoNaGe

I was wondering how exactly people upgrade to SLI in the future. I always hear the advice to buy the best single gpu you can afford now and SLI later, but I've noticed that even after the next gen gpus come out, the high end old cards can still be quite expensive. Do you buy the second card used? Do you just cross your fingers that it'll go on sale sometime in the future? Or if there's a pretty good sale going on like the asus gtx 780 ti, do you buy the second card immediately?

This might actually fit better in the GPU section... whoops. Could a mod please move it there? Thanks!

A lot of people in this community just don't SLI/Xfire at all, instead they tend to wait for another high end GPU after a few years.

However, I know that I'd want to get another 6950 for Xfire, and increase my performance by quite a bit in many games if I can't cough up the money for another high end card. I'd either get a 6950 used from ebay ($80 for a good one), or go here and Xfire with a 6970. I'm sure there are probably a decent amount of people in my situation as well, with a different card setup.
