Can i use 2400 mhz ram?

If a motherboard has "2400mhz(O.C.)" listed in the specs, does that mean a 2400 mhz ram kit would work? Just worried cuz it says "(O.C.)".

i think 2400 means that it support ram that is overclocked 2400mhz but i don't think you need 2400mhz unless your running a apu

Or professional applications like CAD, music mixing, etc.. Also, the flight simulator programs benefit.

It should support it, you just have to make sure the memory is validated to run at those speeds.

Do they really?

Yes. Most of the wide-world simulators don't procedurally generate the textures. They're loaded moment to moment by the CPU into the GPU. They're memory-intense.

I must revise my planned build then.

You'll be fine with 1866 CAS 9/8. Don't forget Intel also has a very large cache advantage over AMD.

I wasn't thinking of anything higher. But as it stands I was just going to reuse my current 1333 kit. (Sad, I know)

Say i were to do an apu build, would 2400 mhz ram work with a "2400mhz (O.C.)" motherboard?

1333 CAS 7 is fine for most things despite what people think. But as we move to heterogeneous solutions, that won't hold true for too long.

Yes assuming it's on the board manufacturer's "verified" list.

I think it's at 9 or 10...

I must revise my planned build then.

especially X-Plane.  It can make use of fast RAM AND multiple CPU's!

X-Plane is also poorly optimized, designed, and has crap models. :P

it should work, i would only recommend fast ram in a apu build because you would see a performance increase over normal ram(like 1600mhz)

But the physics are as real as it gets.  Airlines actually use it to train pilots.

But..I don't care if they're as real as it can be... I want my simulator to actually run better than FSX with PMDG stuff. And look good too.
