Bookshelf vs 2.1 Speakers:Micca MB42x vs Microlab Solo6c vs Logitech Z623?

Jessica

Hey.  :)

Just looking to invest a bit of money in some decent bookshelf speakers. I have a tight budget and limited stock due to living in Australia so I've narrowed it down to either the Micca MB42x (rebranded Voll in Australia) or the Microlab Solo6c. Using them for everything (music, gaming, movies). Would like some decent bass but I'll most likely buy a separate sub in the future anyways. Also a friend just recently picked up the Logitech z623 speakers and they sound surprisingly better than what I imagined so I'm wondering how they weigh up to the two bookshelf speakers I just listed.

Cheers!

Microlab.

Do you have the Microlab Solo6C? How do they fare?

The z623 is decent, ive got then but the klipsch pro media 2.1 are very good.

I've heard the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 are really good but I can't find them anywhere for a reasonable price in AUS.

I happen to have both the PM2.1 and the Z623, without a doubt the PM2.1 is better overall, especially for music....which is one of your criteria. The PM2.1 has separate tweeter and mids, vocals and mids are definitely better on the PM2.1 than on the Z623. Not putting down the Z623, it is an awesome 2.1 for movies and gaming, music playback isn't its forte though.....it sounds decent enough.

Sadly the pm2.1 isnt sold everywhere, when i brought my z623 it wasnt even in the uk, its a bit silly.

Aw shoot, that's bad alright! :(  The PM2.1 wasn't initially available in my neck of the woods, mine's a US model and I I have to use a step down transformer/converter, but has been recently released as a 230V model. There was an issue with the sub on my PM2.1, so being in a lazy rut, I simply bought a HiVi GT1000 2.1 system to replace it. When I'd built another system, I'd gotten the Z623 for it.....these are pretty good 2.1 system, but I miss my PM2.1. Removed the speaker from sub on my PM2.1, and had it resealed with foam surround and it's back to sounding awesome. I have it on my 2nd rig with the GT1000 on my 3rd rig, and the Z623 on my 4th rig.

BTW, kind of curious....where DID you get your Z623?

My price range is around $100 - $150 AUD. The thing is Australia has little to no offerings on bookshelf speakers at this price range except for the Solo6c and Micca MB42x (which is rebranded as Voll and has the crossover). Like I said prior, I do enjoy some good bass but I don't want it to be over-saturating the mids and highs. I'll most likely buy a subwoofer of some description down the line to connect to the setup. From what I've read so far the Solo6c and 7c variants are some of the best bang for buck speakers within the $100 - $200 price range but they are not sold in the US, therefore not much exposure on them. Likewise, the Micca speakers also seem to have high price on amazon and general reviews so it's a tough decision.

IF OP is looking for monitors with pretty decent bass, perhaps M Audio AV30 or AV40 might fo the trick.

The cheapest M Audio AV30s I cano t find are on ebay for $75 + $50 shipping shey are in my price range. How do they fare against the other speakers?

How do the Creative Gigaworks T3 or T6 speakers compare Klipsch 2.1

My T3's just died after 5 years... The thing that I loved about them was the crisp, punchy base because of the sealed sub design... I find ported subs a bit boomy

So reading reviews the T6 replacements don't seem to rate so well in quality

Any suggestions?

I have toyed with the idea of using a sound bar with a wireless sub... But there are so many on the market I don't know where to start

I will be using this on my PC... But I'm a bit our a sound nut

The AV30's (and AV40) are monitors, so they should, let me emphasize 'should', be more accurate and balanced sound reproduction. For bass, don't expect bass to be like those on the Z623 or PM2.1 since it doesn't have a sub, but bass is decent enough to make for enjoyable music listening. Heck, I have a pair of Creative T20 and for music listening, it isn't half bad actually.....the AV30 would definitely be better. I think I'd auditioned the AV30 once a while back, and since I was toying with getting a HiVi GT1000, I wasn't in the mindset of balanced sound, just wanted more 'BOOM' for my games and movies.....hence, the GT1000 and Z623.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for the late reply guys but I picked up Microlab Solo6c and they sound amazing and have incredible bass. Also got myself some speaker stands to go with them due to the size and they fit nicely in my room.

Cheers for the help everyone!
