Any idea if the design helps performance in some way?

That is...an interesting...design.

 

Actually it's pretty damn ugly.

It looks like a POS. Probably doesn't do anything for performance accept for being unpractical AF.

From personal experience and casual observation, fans with LEDS tend to range from crap to so-so. I've yet to see a properly built fan that also had LEDs. Please don't bring up Corsair's fans, those use sub-par sleeve bearings while the non LED versions don't..it's like fans with LEDs are made bad on purpose. I think the closest to good LED fans are probably the blingy ones from Enermax.

Aerocool ds are great! When led!

Fan looks normal to me. Shroud is somewhat odd and I've seen much better designs.
