A Console Priced PC

Combatman12

Hey guys, I have a bunch of friends who want to get into PC gaming, what hardware could I recommend them getting? Bearing in mind they come from the WiiU, Xbox 360 base. I need something cheap that will be good for games and good for doing schoolwork.

It should cost less the £550 including peripherals and the monitor.

I looked at Austin Evans's build but it seemed like it could have costed a bit more. It seemed under-priced from my point of view. (And lacking other recommendations)

Windows 8.1 (£40), Microsoft Office (2007 onwards?) and an antivirus should be included.

(I use Bitdefender personally because it's lightweight).

Warranties are a necessity.

Any help would be appreciated.

:)

£550 is a bit tight, especially if you need a monitor thrown in. Do you not also require a case, keyboard & mouse?

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Yep.

It's supposed to be console priced. Things need to be cheap. I know of mouses which are cheap and keyboards too.

That's the problem with PCs against console. Initial cost. I can say that it'll pay for itself. But then I need to leave room to improve. So crossfire or SLI later on. At least being able to play games at console level graphics.

The 270x owns all consoles on the market. Crossfiring midrange cards is a bad idea, don't do it, you're better off waiting 3-4 years then upgrading to a new card entirely.

Use @ShadowCaptain 's build, just adding you don't need ms office, use libreoffice instead. Almost full compatibility.

At school we use MSOffice. My friends won't be willing to learn a new program.

It's absurdly easy to use if you have any idea of how office programs work. If they really want to pay more for no reason, it's up to them, but offer them this option.

Or something

yeah fuck office its like £100, either get a 365 subscription, use open office (looks and works like office) or google docs

Its just not realistic to get another £100 for office into the budget

MS Office is the way to go. Everything else can go home. Maybe your school can support you there. I'd recommend MSO 2010 onwards.

who cares...

They both look good, slightly over budget but I'm sure that my friends will be able to drop the price if they own a mouse/display or keyboard.

I changed the builds slightly to be more energy efficient and have windows 8.1

Both of you have done great and I can say that I could recommend these to friends!

Use open office its free, and if you save the files in a certain format (cant remember which off hand) you can use them across other office software. IMO its the best free one out there.

@Combatman12 ... I could make it cheaper but I did not want to compromise on quality
