Does anyone know if this email address belongs to paypal? [NOW SOLVED]

MrTomnus

I've sold my MacBook on ebay recently and someone bought it quite soon after I listed it. It took a while for them to pay, but yesterday they got in touch with me.Today I've received an email from PayPal saying that in order to receive the payment, I need to provide a tracking number for the delivery. Does this all sound normal? (Edit: It also doesn't say where I should give this tracking number.) On eBay it lists the transaction as completed, and the payment was made an hour ago but nothing has changed in my PayPal account.

In addition, the email was sent from payment-verifier@NET-shopping.com. is this an email that paypal uses?

I'm just a bit skeptical since I didn't think that was how it worked - I thought you received payment before you sent the item off. And I don't really want to send this off without having the money for it.

this is a question i would take to Paypal not the LTT forum

I know, I just thought I'd get a good response from someone here, to save me the trouble of spending 25 minutes on hold in a call centre.

sounds like a scam.  I've never used paypal.  But I work for AVG and know what these emails look like.  It looks like one.

Scouten is right. Check your PayPal account though, it should show up if he has paid you. If the transaction isn't listed on your account, chances are it's not from PayPal and it's a scam.

I have, I also mentioned that in the OP. To be more detailed, I sent them and invoice for the correct amount. Today I got an email saying they've paid £100 more in a separate invoice and now want the thing shipped to Nigeria... Which I guess I don't mind if I still get what was paid for. But Paypal hasn't displayed this as a pending payment.

If it is not on your Paypal, you haven't received it.

All my mails from Paypal regarding payment are from service@paypal.com for sending or member@paypal.com for receiving.

Also, Gmail has this nice feature you can enable that shows you if an email is really from Paypal.

Hm, is that a plugin? Where can I find that option?

Also, update on thread in general, paypal's support service says websites asking for a tracking number before payment are scams... Ugh. At least I didn't send them any of my personal details :)

If it doesn't show as a payment pending then its likely not from PayPal. All PayPal emails would come from a @paypal.com email.

No it's not real. Especially because they want you to ship it to Nigeria. I dealt with one of those buyers a few months ago. DO NOT ship, and re-list it.

They like to go after high valued electronics, from low experienced sellers. Just google "eBay Nigeria scam"
