In Win D-Frame Steam-Punk Build

silent_goat

Firstly, I'm a total noob.
But, After buying a shitty Ultrabook for $800, I decided to get another job and build a proper rig.
ALL my knowledge about computer building and parts selection has come from Linustechtips videos, NCIX, and various related forums. Without build guides and unboxings, tips and tricks I literally would have messed this up beyond all belief.
After several months and $4500 AUD, I wanted a computer that was upgradeable and expandable, I wanted a computer that could compete against future tech with a bit of help, and I wanted a computer that would be well cooled and enable the parts to produce the best quality for the longest time possible. I also paid for this rig delivering Pizza for 15 dollars an hour so I couldn't afford the greatest in everything and I was only looking to do Audio rendering and Gaming, as well as Auto CAD software.

This is the rig.

IN WIN D-Frame ATX Chassis Red - I custom painted it Gloss White to match my colour scheme (Black, White, Gold, Silver and Copper)
ASUS Z97 PRO Wifi/AC - A very sexy looking board. No bright blue or red plastic. Also came with many of the MAXIMUS series features but cost less than 300 dollars(instead of 500+)

i5 4670K 3.4 Ghz - i5 because the new Devils Canyon i7 wasn't out and there were some hyper-threading issues and Battlefield problems on the earlier chips.

Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600Mhz 2x 8gb- So sexy. Very expensive. If need be I can go up to 32Gb with another set.

EVGA Ge Force 780 Ti Superclocked ACX 3GB - The most expensive part as per usual, but absolutely gorgeous and I didn't want to get two 770s and have them out date themselves. I will eventually run Dual SLI  run 4k (when its mainstream. Cbf right now)

Corsair H100i - As recommended by Linus. Corsair Link SUCKS,("i" series") but the Radiator is excellent and looks very good tied into the frame with some custom tubing over the standard.
Intel 530 240GB SSD's x 2 - One with OS and BF4, The other for games. I helped myself to a 1tb WD Hardrive from an old external to hold spotify cache and music collection.

Corsair SP120 - Very nice fans. All running in silent mode on ASUS bios tuning. 7 of them if you count the ones that came with the radiator (the same but without silent mounts)
Noctua RF-8 - Originally this rig was built into a HAF XB, so I kept them and wired them in for extra graphics airflow.

Custom ATX cable from Modpcuk

Razer Peripherals - Black Mamba 2012, Black Widow Ultimate Stealth, Kraken 7.1. Green LED's are annoying but eventually I can sell them for the new RGBs
Yamaha 500w Surround sound

The copper tubing was originally supposed to carry some wires and LEDS, but I havent been able to get my hands on the appropriate drill bits yet so right now it's just a prop.
When 4k really kicks into gear, I'll add another 780ti, another 16gb of ram, upgrade the cpu to an i7, MUCH bigger power supply and then probably do a water cooling rig with straight line acrylic tubing,

bitspower multi-link adapters, white fluid and a big ass phobya pump/res tube config with two radiators.

Cheers guys, let me know what you think

Originally this rig was built into a HAF XB - explains the 100i and the RF8's in the side - I agree with Askew - a pair of MONSTAS with some straightline tubing will look seeexxxyyyyyyy>
Obviously this case is way more expensive, but the plastic bevel on the front of the HAF ruined it for me. totally ugly. flimsy, it broke. I wanted something made of METAL.
think something like this -

BEAST YES IT DRIVES ME INSANE. I'm using cable ties and picture framing mounts though and sound foam on the bottom. (you may notice I removed the drive bay completely.(also ugly) unfortunately the shape of the motherboard tray put one slightly off. I'll fix it one day two three four.

also dust may come to be a problem, but I'll probably order some custom filters from Demci at some point. Until then. the ole can 'o' air will have to do. especially since the PCI bay was just a millimetre too wide and I couldnt slot the IO panel on.

Hey there,

A truly awesome build! I hope it's not too loud with all those fans. I'd add a couple of weak, dim LEDs in the inside corners of the rig, but it is truly remarkable! Great job!

Asus silent bios control means all fans run at 40% power on idle (my power supply fan doesn't even spin)- its incredibly quiet. I've never once seen it run at 100% except on startup when it sounds like a jet starting up.

You need guages, and gate valves in those copper lines. Otherwise, le-awesome

Hmm. All looks a bit higgledy piggledy to me.

Frame needs stripping and painting copper. White in Steampunk... Not so sure.

Agree with B-Neg, white tubing just doesn't work, get it plumbed !

Take off the shopping list (badges) they don't work and are only for first builders IMO.

Get the ram bars copper plated. See Loramentum for example...
