Help on a pair of headphones/headset

Skwoad

Hey, I apologize if this is in the wrong section. (Was not sure if here or audio)

But I am looking at getting a pair of HyperX Cloud headphones/set, I understand that gaming "Headsets" are pretty low tier in terms of audio quality. I watched Tek Syndicates video on them, and he said their quality drastically improved when he used a pcie- soundcard. I know very little about sound cards but was looking at getting one of these: Asus Xonar DGX

Could I just have some advice if this is a good card and If this is the best headset.

I would buy a modmic but I don't want to deal with the cables.

Many thanks,

Skwoad

I use an Asus Xonar DG, works/sounds great to me. I imagine the DGX is better though.

Don't know anything about the headset, sorry.

I've been using usb sound cards until now. I've found them to be ok, do you have any experience with them? Like in comparison to the Asus soundcard.

External sound cards are usually better due to removing it from the interference of the PC's inner components.

If you have a modern motherboard then the on-board audio solution should be enough, especially if you go the headset route. Sound cards are pretty obsolete these days and only reason to get one is to get extra ports for 5.1/7.1 speakers or if the on-board is broken.

DG and DGX are the same just different interfaces. One goes to the old PCI slot and other to the newer PCI-E. If you really need a sound card then they are good options since they are cheap.

HyperX Cloud is a "good" headset. Probably the best under $200 range but headphones and microphone combo is still better for quality. Only get them if you absolutely must have all-in-one solution. Otherwise, check the Audio sub-forum for what people are recommending; this subject is done pretty much daily there. :)

Thanks,

The only reason I wanted to get that sound card is because it has amped power for the headphones.

Ill go take a gander at the audio forum then.

Many thanks,

Skwoad

Most on-board chips should be just fine without extra amping. The best thing to do is to get the headphones/-set first and see if its loud enough on the on-board and if not, then get an amp (even then there are much better options than a sound card).

Hmm ok, im quite inexperienced in this area. I just though that headphones using < 62OMz (i think) didnt need the amping. And anything over benefited from one.
