Front fans intaking or exhausting?

Go to solution Solved by Michael Rahmani,

Thanks for everyone's help! Front fans are intaking and back are exhausting now. GPU is WAY cooler.

Hello,

I have a fractal R4. I have two stock fans in the front of the case exhausting air. My H80i is in the back intaking air. Is this setup ideal or is there a better setup?

I originally had all my fans intaking but then I figured that was stupid and made my front fans exhaust.

Thanks!

have the front intaking aswell and get 2 fans to exhaust out the top.

It's just reversed airflow. You're fine.

If your liquid cooler is sucking air into the case, you need to suck it out somehow. Putting fans positioned in reverse on the front of the case is a much more viable method than sucking it through a straw.

Check example below.

He has a liquid cooler sucking air in from the back of the case. OP should have his front fans expelling air, to create a reverse airflow.

I just like positive pressure, so I would have the front intaking, but either way its not gonna noticeably affect temps.

front always intake

bottom always intake

top always exhaust

rear can be intake or exhaust, depending on what works better to get positive air pressure

I use 4 intake ( one front ,two bottom ,1 rear) and have two exhaust through my radiator so i have positive pressure, i should realy make the rear an exhaust so im not pumping all this hot air through my rad.

You need to have front intake. Otherwise GPU doesn't get enough cool air to use.

reverse cooling can work but its not good... why would u intake warm air from radiator? u just getting heat in case for no reason. if u dont use radiator it would be ok. but again its better to have intake on front so u can better cool gpu.

Not getting into the discussion of which's better: negative or positive pressure, I believe everyone agrees that hot air rises(I guess this is a proven fact) and that hot air should not stay inside your case.

Heat(hot air) originates from: CPU, GPU, some chips on the motherboard and HDDs/SSDs.

With that in mind, the best way to get the hot air out ASAP and the cool air in ASAP is:

Front/bottom: intake; top/rear: exhaust.

Mess up with the setups, try different things and check the temperatures.

Whichever layout has the best combination of CPU, GPU and Case/Mobo lowest temperatures is the way to go.

This is a great example of great airflow, IMO.

Rads that are placed bottom or front can and often are used as intakes. But I'm with you in why to use top rad mount as intake since CPU is already cooled by it. If there would be problem with CPU temps, there's always rear fan to provide fresh air just for rad.
