What To Buy Next?

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

I'd probably go with something along these lines. I picked black and yellow for the build color since it's not something you see often and that'd be a nice change.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($241.98 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($104.99 @ Micro Center)
Motherboard: MSI Z97 MPOWER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($169.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: GeIL EVO CORSA Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($159.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card  ($410.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Series Primo Aluminum ATX Full Tower Case  ($239.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000G2 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($146.81 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Monitor: AOC q2963Pm 60Hz 29.0" Monitor  (Purchased For $0.00)
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K95 Wired Gaming Keyboard  (Purchased For $0.00)
Mouse: Logitech G700s Wireless Laser Mouse  (Purchased For $0.00)
Total: $1564.71

A lot easier to save for, and you get similar performance. You get the case you originally wanted as well.

Honestly, with that monitor you're not running at much higher than regular 1080p. I'd just go with one card. If you can afford the extra $120, it might be worth going with the X, but the cards overclock very well so the standard 290 should suit you just fine. You can always add a second one later down the line if you find you need a performance boost. Remember, you only need to hit 60fps.

It's the US PCPP because I was too lazy to change it and that's where I generally buy my parts.

Thank you very much! Now, I am actually thinking if I Actually need R9 290X. I would love the MSI Lightning cuase I think it's a perfect blend but I'm pretty sure this gpu is more than enough and furthermore, I can always overclock it! And the gpu's colors are amazing as well! I could even get the R9 290X by Sapphire instead.

Regarding the case, I'm still not sure since the enthoo primo is the ultimate in my opinion but logicaly the Luxe (since it ressembles the primo the most) is the most logical choice.

The Lightening was actually the card I was thinking of for a black/yellow theme but I couldn't remember at the time, and got sick of going through the different pictures :P

It's not a huge price difference between the two. If you like the Primo more, go for it. Cases can generally last through several builds, so it's more of an investment.

If I go with either, I was planning to replace the fans and buy noctua fans instead, is it worth it or not. for the luxe, I was going to buy 3 NF-A140 pwm and 3 NF-F120 pwm. it totals for 164.94$ Or should I leave the stock fans  and use the fans that com with the H105? Furthermore, I went with this ram since it's only 14 bucks more and it's 2400 mhz and I prefer the colour. With everything I have  to save up 1974.37$ . I set a limit of maximum 2000$ so I wasn't able to upgrade to the enthoo primo. But I'm not really sad abou this since I won't be doing a custom waterloop and besides, the enthoo luxe still has great watercooling potential. I'll see, I'll try to get a part time job or maybe get a job home.

The fans don't really make a huge difference in performance tbh. I mean obviously if you have a realllly bad stock fan, then yes it will. But generally the fans that come in higher end cases will be fine.

You might save a degree or two but there are other places where money's better spent.

Linus actually did a video on it (finally) a while ago.

Part time jobs are super easy to get, try applying at Canadian Tire. They have super slack requirements.

I actually had that RAM selected at first but I thought it looked more gold than yellow. If you tie it in with some other gold bits around the case I'm sure it'll look great though. Spray paint ftw.

You can install it now, might as well use it if you've got it.

Looks great!

I imagine it's fine. If it bothers you just try bending them back?
