Advice on selecting a new HDD for steam game installs! (2TB vs 3TB)

Mitsy

I am looking to expand on my current 120gb 840 evo and 1 TB seagate barracude and would like something in the 2TB+ range so i don't have to get another eventually... I was looking into a 2TB seagate barracuda but noticed a 3TB is only $17 more. However i have heard the failure rate is higher for drives over 2TB.

Open to other options.
2 TB or more & under $100!

2tb has better compatibility with older OS's. But if you have windows 7 or 8 then get a 3tb :)

I have mean using a Seagate 3TB for all my games for just over a year now and it's still going strong.
(I have 2 st3000dm001 hdd's one for data and the other just for games)

Do you actually have that many games that you need more than a 1tb drive?
Do you play all the ones you have installed?
I don't get why people need so much space for games. I could easily do with a 500gb drive.

I have a slow internet connection (like many others) and like to replay my games and in my case I have around 300 games on steam alone. and my 3tb hdd (which is just for games) has 1.63tb off used space on it (60% full). not everyone want to have to download and/or reinstall ever time they want to replay a game.

P.S. I spend way to much time gaming

Why the fuck would you have to redownload a game every time?

I have windows 7. The only reason i was looking at the 3TB is that it isn't that much more expensive!

I have 200+ games on steam. I really only need 200-300GB but I hate installing and uninstalling something whenever I want to play a new game. So I would rather just install & forget if you know what I mean!

2TB is too much, why don't you either get a 1TB HDD or an SSD.

I currently have a 1TB and filled it rather fast & SSDs are to expensive.

Why the fuck would you have to redownload a game every time?

He means if he only have a small HD like 500gb-1TB he would have to uninstall games to make space for new games... If he ever wants to go back and play/finish a game he uninstalled he would have to redownload it.
