Because DDR4 platforms exist :P

But WHY

DDR4 is promising to bring higher frequencies than DDR3, so what's the point of releasing DDR4 with the same speeds?

2133mhz is the base for all DDR4, unlike DDR3 1033 or 1333 is normally the base. I think your title is made quite redundant by your statement underneath the hyperlink.

Same reason DDR3 1066 existed, cheaper to get on the DDR3 platform even though DDR2-1066 was a thing.

2133MHz is considered fairly fast for DDR3, but is the starting speed for DDR4. It offers a cheap solution if you're going for X99.

So is it like 1333 for DDR3?

As currently that is the way forward, If you want future compatibility with higher speed DDR4 RAM. Unfortunately you need to pay out of the nose.

uh, some people want X99 platform but dont want to get a 500 dollar set of RAM, so they buy this

it also uses 1.2 V instead of the 1.65V  DDR3 runs at

Or 1066 I guess. To be honest, if I was going for X99, I would consider this kit to start with while I waited for higher density and lower prices to come around. This kit makes a lot of sense really.

or just go for a 8gb kit, it's rather cheap still under 150 and you can upgrade in a six months or a year to 32gb for alot cheaper.

If you're short on money tho don't buy it, you'd prob get more bang for your buck out of a normal i7 and more ddr3 if you needed more ram for video editing and etc. but for now a six core for gaming+ 8gb if ddr4 would be "passable"

It is more then jst speeds. DDR4 uses less power which is good for a laptop. And the RAM manufacturers make more money with new ram

There's more to RAM than just speed.

Not to mention 2133MHz is fast for DDR3, not the fastest you can get but it's pretty fast, whereas 2133MHz is the base for DDR4.

this one is quite high latency for a 2133 kit tho. CL16 is more expected from DDR4 3000MHz kits. but its a good starter pack so to speak
