Star Citizen graphics

SlaughterSmurf

Is it just me or are the graphics kind of disapointing? I know it's alpha, but when I downloaded it with the free trial code thing, from the hype I had heard I expected it to be beautiful. There is no anti-aliasing and overall just looked kind of meh.... Is it just me? Am I too picky? Am I flat out insane? Also everyone preached it as the destroyer of systems, and I'm here with 8GB of ram, 780ti, and a 4.4 ghz 3570k getting over 60 FPS in hanger and flight sim with max settings 1080p!

Edit: K.... so why is literally every single person raving about the fact that Star Citizen is a system melter and is a masterpeice of graphical fidelity and then when I say it isn't, everyone acts as though nobody has every said that.... As someone going into it not knowing what to expect and going purely off of what people have been saying it isn't crazy for me to be surprized when the game runs great and looks mediocre...

It's pre-alpha and not alpha.

i wonder if they added PBR yet or not

for me what i hate is that it looks like Effing crysis

when i play the  game i think im playing crysis not star citizen

everything "looks" like crysis with a mod on top

i dont know why i cant get over that small thing but it will probably make me sell my account or something

Mark my words, the will make a titan and name it the Titan X

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

The reason my expectations were so high is because literally everyone who has said anything about it has hyped it to crap... it's like a game getting 90+ on metacritic with glowing reviews EVERYWHERE and the game being average. No kidding expectations are high if it's THAT hyped.

It's just that the hangars are kinda crappy right now, I think it's the lighting. But with the refresh to hangars coming out you should see some differences.

It looks like Crysis because the game is still in CryEngine 3. No worries though, further along the ride they will implement their very own version of CryEngine 4, on which the devs are working hard on.

the thing is that they are holding to specific crysis stuff

movements of the player is an example

ive played other cryengine games made by other devs that doesnt feel anything like crysis

also where did u  hear about cryengine 4 support ?

from watching almost every video they made  all i can read is that they have their own modified version of cryengine

they even have the source and their making their own changes

the new patch, coming soon, this week hopfuly, is a complete overhaul of the hangars, which have not really been touched since last year, adds full pbr to them, adds more ships to the hangar, which are also pbr, and the reason it has no aa or anything like that as they have not begun working on any of that, nor is the game been optimized at all.

I read they are using a moded Cry engine 4 not 3.
But seriously, whining at pre alpha? The Game is Hyped Because of Chris Roberts is making it And because the Ship designs are Cool....and because Reddit cant STFU.

Does no one know what an alpha build is?`its a miracle that the game is not Blockouts only considering its stage!!!

@qwertywarrior they are working on custom animation, they have been showing the process a few times.

SC is being built on a heavily customised version of cryengine 3.7 and the changes being made by cig are being folded into cryengine 4 so in a sense cig are making ce4.  the largest change by far is that they are moving it from a 32 bit engine to a 64 bit engine, which will allow for much larger play areas, and massive scalability.

It's Pre-Alpha with the half engine still in coding phase.

This how the actual game will look: (Even better because they haven't done motion capture yet and it will have PhysX/TressFX/Mantle/DX12 support)

CR said that no special physics engines will be hsed, and they will stick with a modified version of Cry Engines

And so GabeN has told us to march forthith unto the Land of Holy welding our swords of mice, shields of keyboards, and helmets of Oculus Rifts where we shall reclaim it-which is rightfully ours-from the PUNY Console Peasants from whom armed only with mere controllers we shall decimate in all forms of battle and we shall dominate even in their most ridiculous tradition and infatuation of CoD. Yes, my brothers- sisters and trans sexuals too- we shall destroy the inferior of races with our might and majesty. And if any Peasants wish to join us they must speak now or forever perish. -Ancient Speech from a Leader of Old, Book of Murratri section 2

they don't need a special engine, cry has a full physics engine in it.

The engine isn't changing but half of the graphic features are still missing and have to be implemented.

PBR is still not fully implemented.

Light boundaries have to be remade so that light doesn't leak through objects.

They haven't implemented MSAA,SMAA,FXAA,TXAA yet.

HBAO and SSAO is also still missing.

No DX12 and Mantle support yet as well as TressFX and PhysX.

The LODs are still work in progress.

Fading soft shadows are also not working quiet yet.

Motion Capture hasn't even started yet which is why all animations and characters look bad.

Procedural Generation is also not implemented yet.

And what's most important the engine has to be rewritten in 64bit double precision so that they can even support free roaming in space.

That's probably true of the core physics but there have been presentations saying PhysX will be supported, it will likely just be for aesthetics though.

It's a destroyer of systems because it is so poorly optimised and every thruster has basicly it's own ai, every thruster had to be in the correct position otherwise the ship wasn't correctly balanced.

The hype is due to the extra polish Chris Roberts is putting into the game and yes stop whining, mine runs at 3fps on bad days
