3x 1080p + 2nd 780 or ROG Swift

mrgoboom

Hey guys, looking to upgrade my current display setup.

I am currently running on an old ~20 inch 1680 x 1050 60 Hz monitor.

I have been waiting on the ROG swift and G-Sync for a while, but recently took a step back to think about my options.

Do you think it would be a better idea to invest in the ROG Swift PG278Q (1440p 144 Hz with G-Sync) currently priced at $889.74 in Canada or 3 1080p Monitors (for arguments sake, the LG 22MP55HQ-P) costing $419.97 with an addition of a second GTX 780 if necessaray (probably would be) totalling $929.96. This option would also require me to replace my desk as the monitors wouldn't fit. (There is room for a bigger desk). If I were to chooses the ROG Swift, I would probably keep my current display as a second display to be used for activities other than gaming.

What are your opinions?

EDIT: I realize that a single 780 would have difficulty pushing new games at 1440p 144Hz, but the benefit of G-Sync is it does need to. I play a significant number of older games where it might accomplish this and on newer games I have no trouble accepting 60 fps.

EDIT2: A third option (mentioned by Swndlr) would be a different 1440p monitor (say the Acer K272HULbmiidp at $459.98) and another 780 for $969.97

Well, you would need a second 780 to run 1440p at 144hz as well (unless you're playing easy games).

I personally dont like multi monitor gaming (unless its a sim). so my choice would be the 144hz panel--but then again, I'd just get a regular 144hz 1440p (non gsync) and save some money (well, actually i wouldnt get 144hz but thats besides the point).

I'd go with the 3 1080p monitors and a 2nd 780 as it will give you much more screen real-estate to do stuff with, and give you the option of running games in eyefinity.

you also need to think about it this way, how well would a single 780 run games at 1440 / 144hz. :/

what i would do is get a normal 1440p monitor (when i say normal i mean anything other than the $800 rog swift) and add another 780, that would be shweeeet :D

You're going to need 2-3 780's to run 1440p at 144hz, (coming from someone that had two watercooled overclocked 780's and a PB278Q)

I'd recommend getting a pb278q instead, G sync is nice and all, but spending an extra $400 to not benefit from the "added features" versus getting an IPS 1440p monitor is a bad option imo.

I'd save the $ and get a PB278Q/ different 1440p IPS monitor and overclock it to ~75 HZ.

A single 780 will barely push 60 FPS in most games at 1440p anyways, so the extra money you're spending is somewhat irrelevant besides the G-Sync.

What kind of framerate do you think you would get with a single card on a new game? or an older (2007-9 ish) game?

EDIT: you answered my question in your edit.

I would highly recommend getting a single 1440p display over the 3x1080p setup. A few others have mentioned it, but multiple displays is not as great as it seems. In regards to G sync, as much as I love the concept of it, I couldn't justify spending ~$300 for it. Pick up a nice 1440p IPS and you will be extremely happy, and so will your wallet :)

You've asked this before I'm sure, and the answer remains the same.

A single 780 isn't going to push 60+ fps in many games at 1440p so there's not that much point in the ROG Swift. Just get the second 780 and some new monitors. I think Surround/Eyefinity looks great...
