Better than 4790k?

What's the step after the 4790k? My friend is gonna build a new computer and he wants more power than me! What's the next level? The pc is mostly used for productivity, professional video and 3d rendering, and for hobby gaming.

i7 extreme and then Xeon

Xeon and the i7 (Extreme) are almost the exact same.

An i7 4790 is the same as the Xeon E3-1276 v3.

You may watch this video. I learned about i7's and Xeon's from it.

Nothing on LGA1150, you have to go 2011 now. Recently Intel released Haswell-E, which is 5820K, 5930K and 5960X. Those, however, require X99 motherboards and expensive DDR4 memory. You might still be able to find Ivy Bridge-E, which is the last generation and is 4820K, 4930K and 4960X.

They're not exaaactly the same. One allows ECC memory and the i7 has a more advanced iGPU.

I never said they were "exaaactly the same." I said they are almost the exact same. ;)

There is your answer. I believe HardwareCanucks recently made a video where they showed the build of one of their video editors' rig. It has a 2011 CPU, high frequency 32GB of RAM, TITAN Black... - all that good stuff that you gotta sell your liver in order to afford.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k | CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 | Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth Z97 MARK 1 | Memory: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB 1866MHz | GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 4GB Windforce

The first line and second line are two different statements, as you're comparing two different products.

I don't see the word almost present anywhere in the second line.

The second line I thought you meant the first one.

Clearly, OP wanted to know if there was a CPU that was better than the i7 4790K.

You suggested the Xeon, so I gave you an example of the i7-4790 and the Xeon E3-1276 v3. Figure of speech, I'm comparing both CPU's in terms of raw performance. iGPU and ECC memory are the only different features of the CPU itself.

I was only suggesting that to explain how the Xeon is NOT better than an i7.
