DP to HDMI

Will it make any difference using a DP to HDMI cable as opposed to a standard HDMI cable? For my monitor, that is

Don't think there will be a difference as they are both digital signals.

Audio signals wont go to the monitor but that's about it as far as I'm aware.

why ruin the greatness of DP with HDMI?

I'm wondering if there's just any difference, because my monitor doesn't support DP, but my GPU does

Makes no sense because the only difference will be that the HDMI will no longer carry sound. Other than that it would be identical.

The only reason I can think why you'd want to do this is because DP has a locking mechanism which HDMI does not. In that case you should use a DVI-HDMI instead because in some cases (i.e. with some GPUs) they will allow the sound to be transmitted over DVI too if there's an HDMI connection on the other end.

Of course if you don't want sound you may as well use DVI, if you want the locking mechanism.

Yeah I thought so, thanks though.
