Quadruple Rad Rig Fan Options

Go to solution Solved by airdeano,

How do these compare to the NF-F12s and eLoop B12-Ps? $10 cheaper each for five/six fans is certainly not insignificant, but would I feel like I cheaped out if I went with either of the fans you mentioned?

as owning:

16 SP120QE

10 SP120PE PWM

4 M12-P

9 Spectre Pro

10 Helix 120

8 Helix 120 PWM

6 AC12

8 hyperborea 120

they are kind of a hidden little secret (not available everywhere) in using them,

i kinda do this water cooling thing to find a better solution of performance and

quietness.

the B12P/PS is for push only, loud at 12v (100% PWM), B12-PS are quiet, but not

pressurized enough for under cycling for the amount of money spent.

NF-F12 are loud at 100%, minimal pressure at 50% to make quiet and color is

not desirable again pricing is paramount.

SP120QE PWM are more powerful statically and when under cycled, but have a

tendency to click/clunk on cycle ramp/search. super loud at 100%.

hyperborea are quiet at 100% cycle, monster static pressure at high/mid duty cycle,

do not clunk/click on fan curve and all black.

I'm looking for low noise/good static pressure fans for my rig which has 2 x 240 mm and 2 x 120 mm EK PE series rads. I'm cooling a 4690k (not yet overclocked) and two GTX 570 Superclocked graphics (will upgrade these once there are good 4k options and I can spend more). Everything in a Fractal Arc Midi R2. Obviously I know the Noctua NF-F12s are a favorite but considering I won't likely need very high rpm with 4 rads in the rig, how would Scythe GT AP-13s (or any others for that matter) perform? I also like the white fins but color is a distant second concern.

The Arc midi can handle 4 rads? Dafaq.

The noctuas look fine.

The noctuas look fine.

240 front, 240 top, 120 rear, 120 bottom. Should all fit with thin rads, no 3.5" bays and a standard or small size PSU.

I'm not sure I would spend the money on the water blocks for the 570's or if you can still find them. Just seems like a bad investment

Sell the 570's and the money you get from those+the cost of the water blocks should get you a decent 700 series card.

Anyways, corsair sp120's are nice cost efficient fans for rads

How many rads you have doesn't directly mean that you won't need high rpm fans. The EK PE series are still high fpi and you'd still need fans at high rpm on them if the fans have low static pressure. Luckily, the PE's aren't too thick so you can still have good static pressure fans on em at relatively low rpm.

Dunno about the AP-13's but AP-15's or AP-45's would be great and quiet around 1200-1400 RPM if you can find em. There's also another great quiet option that fits your white fans blades criteria, Noiseblocker E-loop B12-3's or B12-P's. Those are also very quiet at 1200-1400 RPM which will be a good speed for the PE rads.

Aqua computer and aqua tuning sell blocks for the GTX570 a reasonable price, I got one a week back, it is sexy looking.

Thanks everyone!

MrBucket101: I know the 570s are outdated at this point, and I don't have them on watercooling right now so I'm thinking I'll upgrade to a 780ti sometime soon if I can. Or perhaps wait til graphics cards have DirectX 12 standard. Either way the watercooling is intended for a new card not the 570s.

Shaqo_Wyn: Thanks for the info on the PE rads. I think I was considering 1200-1500 relatively low rpm because it usually makes for a very quiet rig.

I can't seem to find good prices on the AP-15s or 45s. So between the Noctua NF-F12s and Noiseblocker eLoop B12-Ps, which will give me better performance on the high fin density PE rads? I do like the look of the Noiseblockers but I have read on other forum topics that people think the Noctuas just plainly outperform at lower rpm. Considering the $10 cheaper price tag on the SP120s, are these viable competitors against the other two?

look into the akasa apache or rosewill hyperborea fans. deep static pressure and

low noise output.

Thanks for all the info! I'm surprised to hear that the NF-F12s don't have good pressure at lower RPM since I've always heard that they're pretty much the best all around static pressure fans (especially when used for rads). At $10 each, the Hyperboreas would save me $85 in total so if they really are just as good an option then I'd rather go with those.

In terms of fan control, what would be the best option? I don't really want a 5.25" bay control device as I currently use a dual bay XSPC res/pump.

power from straight from the PSU is best, mobo control with PWM fan splitter.
