What's the downside in putting a Graphics Card in an x8 PCIe slot?

I know it's possible to put a graphics card into an x8 slot, but I want to know the downsides of doing so.

I am going to put an R9 270 in the one x16 slot I have in my motherboard (Gigabyte A88XF2-UP4)

I might want to add another R9 270 in the future in Crossfire with the one I will use in the x16 slot.

But what is the disadvantage of putting a GPU into an x8 PCIe slot?

Nothing, there most likely be none or minimal performance drop.

well it's better than running crossfire at 16x and 4x because you will see a performance drop, 8x speed and above is okay, 4x speed isn't good

Technically there will be half as much bandwidth in between the CPU and GPU, but this doesn't really affect real-world performance at all..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

At Gen 3 x8. Even a 780 has a hard time trying to saturate it a 270 won't come close

I run 2 780s in x8 if they were both x16 I would see below 5 fps more
