why can't i overclock my cpu as high as my friend

TheRagingGamer

So i got a little story to tell you

Heres my friend build

intel c2d e4600
350W psu
3gb or ram
1hdd
9800 gt
Some old ass green mobo

My build

intel c2d e4600
400W psu
4gb or ram
2hdd's
8800gtx
asus p5b

Now these are our old PC's and we decide to have some fun with this.

So he overclocks first

3.4 ghz
1.5V
80C on prime95

And i was expecting better results due to a better mobo

3.4 ghz
1.6V
crashes on prime95

Both of us have the same cooler: artic cooling 7 pro

is my cpu faulty, there has to be something wrong

Specs: AMD FX 6300 @ 4ghz, Asus R9 270 OC, 8gb Corsair xms3, Cooler Master GX 550w PSU, WD 500 blue, Gigabyte  GA-970A-DS3

As has already been said, each CPU will overclock differently it is luck of the draw with how well your CPU can overclock. Some even get better temps than they should at their speed.

And actually this is the reason why Overclockers buy several cpus of the same model to see wich one clock higher to break OC records.

You got different Silicon bro, Only way you could get almost identical CPU's is go to where ever they manufacture them and grab 2 right beside each-other on the line. Even then you might not get the same results.
