Green vs Red for TVShow and Movie Storage.

Jonza

Hey guys,

I am looking for a new hard drive for storing tv shows and movies that are then going to be streamed from the hard drive to a media PC running XBMC. I want to know would I be better of getting a WD Red or Green?

Kind Regards

Hey there,

It depends on what environment you intend to put the HDD in. If it is a RAID or a NAS device, then I would recommend the WD Red.

They run cooler, helping extend life and also keep the NAS itself cool.

They are lower in power.

They work really well for constant streaming movies.

And they are specifically designed to be on 24x7.

They are designed to work in a RAID environment, which some drives have issues with and can drop out of the RAID.

If the you intend to put the hard drive in a desktop, then the WD AV drive would suit better. It's a drive optimized especially for audio and video applications and is it's designed to last in 24x7 always-on audio/video environments. Also it runs cool, have low noise levels and is a power saving drive because of the IntelliPower technology.

Here are some link you can check out if you want:

Hope this helps.
