Should I upgrade my FX-6300 or keep my Crossfire plan.

Hi. I currently own a FX-6300 CPU on a 970 series, Crossfire capable motherboard, a R9 270X and a 650W 80+ Bronze PSU

My question is, should I keep my plan and buy another 270X or should I upgrade my CPU to something like a 3570K with a new motherboard?

I use my rig for gaming and making Let's Plays.

A 6300 is fine, @Ryan Leech is running Tri Sli with his 6350.

if you want just get either an 8120 or 8320 (or the 8X50 variants) depending on which one you can get without a new mobo  also note you can crossfire 270xs with 7870s or normal 270s....

Depending on what games you play, your monitor's refresh rate, and how satisfied with your current performance, it might make more sense to go Intel, you only need an i5 for what you plan to use your system for.

I can't think of a single mainstream title where an FX 6300 will hold back XF 270Xs

I'm planning on doing a lets play on a modded GTA IV, and I feel like it's holding me back a lot.

Having crossfired two 7870s the benefits from it are pretty hit and miss. You would be better served by getting some with more vram. 280 (mind you is pretty cheap atm) 280x 290 770 780 780ti. The difference between between the 7870 and 280 was night and day at 1080p. 280 offer a much smoother and consistent framerates. Where the cf 7870 could push high frapps but not nowhere as smoothly or consistently as the 280. High frapps is not where its at. Consistent 60 frames per second is where its at. Well of now i am cf my 280's since they are so cheap now. Only because i run multimonitors. My two cents.

When I play modded GTA IV I usually see my cpu usage around 60%. You need to overclock a bit

Well it's already up to 4.2 Ghz and I can't really go higher.

I didn't know that VRAM mattered that much. I do use a recording codec that uses the onboard H.264 encoder of my GPU, and I wonder if it has an even bigger impact on VRAM.
