"Secondhand" - Phantom - R9 280

catbutts

Hello!

This is another rig I made for a friend on a budget. I've had an NZXT Phantom, a few hard drives, and some extra case fans lying around so I decided to give them to him in order to fit an R9 280 and a 128GB SSD into his $600 budget. I opted for a Pentium G3258 since he will only be gaming and I wanted to see how far I could push it.

I had essentially based the build around this from the planning section:

I tried to fit the Pentium anniversary in with a good cooler and mobo

This 2 year old phantom has some pretty lousy cable management options so I decided not to take a picture of the insides lmao

Luckily it's not a windowed case :P My friend will be keeping it under his desk anyway.

The G3258 obviously overclocks like a beast. Since it'll be out of my hands and in the hands of a newcomer to PC gaming, I've dialed it back to 4.4GHz just in case. I don't want to be driving over and diagnosing CPU issues lol

Here are my builds!

The H440 and Phantom will be driven to my friends houses tonight

lmao it's just acrylic on top of a sheet of paper for now. It was supposed to be temporary, but then the spring semester started and then summer happened and now we're back to the fall semester. It's really easy to forget about hahah

And yeah I was so shocked by the temps, an H100i or something would let this thing go wild
