PC not detecting GPU

Go to solution Solved by mcmad358,

If you can get video output from the motherboard, that means the video card isnt physically installed correctly. Please try the following:

1. Make sure ALL 8 and 6 pin power cables are connected.

2. Make sure you pushed to GPU into the PCI-e slot ALL the way, ALL THE WAY

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed *************

4. Re-Seat the graphics card in another PCI-e slot

5.RMA it

Hello everyone,

I just build my PC and everything works well except my GPU. Every software I install can't seem to detect my GPU, neither does the devicemanager. My Sapphire r9 290 tri-x is placed on the upper slot in my asus maximus hero vii.

Other specs:

i7-4790k

16gb 1866mhz

I plugged my HDMI cable into my mobo because when I plug it into my GPU I don't get visuals.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards

Can you get video when connected to the onboard graphics? I have this board and processor and had same issue. Turned out that it wasn't seated all the way in the slot. Make sure you can see the slot lock on the card. It's easy to overlook, and it took a bit more pressure than expected to get it into the slot seated correctly.

I was gonna try this but I wanted to wait for an answer anyways. I'll give that a try but not now since I'm very tired. I'll reply tomorrow when I've installed it properly (hopefully). If that's the issue I'm just gonna facepalm and thank you a lot.

Make sure you've connected the PCI-E connectors from your power supply to your graphics card. Also make sure you properly seat the graphics card into the slot until you hear a distinct click sound. If nothing works, then try other PCI-E slots. Have you installed drivers yet?

I forgot the 2 pin connector and now I get video when placing the HDMI cable in my GPU. But after 2 seconds my resolution automaticly changed, I have black borders around my screen now.. How do I fix this?

edit: I repluged the cable in and it jumps to a smaller screen after 2 seconds not 2 minutes.

Fixed! I had to go into CCC and go to my digital panels and it was an easy fix! Thank you all for the comments.
