OnePlus One invites are going away on October of 2014

OnePlus revealed on Reddit that it’s about to transition from using invites to a more traditional pre-order system. That still sounds like the company’s seeing stock problems, as pre-orders imply limited availability, but the key here is that any interested buyer could place a pre-order whenever he or she wanted, rather than waiting until coming across an invite code.

 

September was the initial target for the start of pre-orders (and end of invites), but OnePlus says it’s now looking to make the switch sometime in October, instead.

 

Invites are going away? Awesome! Buuuut the phones will only be available via a pre-order... It's a step in the right direction, but the OPO won't necessarily be available for everybody to buy...

Hey, I'm sure this means that more people will be able to get their hands on an OPO, and I'm perfectly fine with that! The OPO is a great phone at a stellar price. I just hope that they'll be able to maintain that price.

i think they just started selling early while they were still manafacturing stock so its taken a while for them to build up some stock

Read that earlier today. What does this mean? You can preorder and know that you won't get your phone before the date they tell you.

Interesting, but a pre order system might be a side step, because whilst they still struggle with stock levels I assume, potential customers, like myself, are likely to go and get other phones, but it is a better move than invites, which whilst good for hype, kind of resulted in negative hype in the end. If it's is sorted out before November and their stock levels are at a level where you can buy them straight away, then I may be swayed away from the HTC one M8 for windows phone or the nexus 5.

It's probably not going to happen. There are like so many other companies that are dominating the carrier markets IE Samsung, HTC, LG, and Apple. The chances of it happening are probably quite slim, but hey I'm always open to things.

Yea but new phones are coming out at IFA and next year so no one is even going to consider this when its time to upgrade then. (well atleast i wouldnt im only considering it now because i want it now there isnt much better atm but next year this wont even be a consideration) thought they would want to make some money lol

Another option that is around this price range afaik is the Nexus 5, but that's sporting some lower quality stuff. I guess hopefully when and if the Nexus 6, if it's going to be called that. Will improve upon the 5 with some better optics, and battery life. Oh and the price will hopefully stay the same or be slightly bumped.

I think they should try to aim for general availability before Christmas; so many people will be putting a new phone on their Christmas list.

With Sony interested more in the US market (canada gets the phones like 2-3weeks after release) That leaves even less room for any other new companies to break into a gap in the market.

This phone will still be considered up until next year considering 1440p is bullcrap to most people.

It's still a Chinese outfit with zero local warranty and service and an OS for geeks.

 

Get a  HTC One M7 for the same price if you're into things that just work and you want a smooth experience. Specs don't matter when you have a quad core and 2+ GB of RAM.

 

Or an iPhone5s if you don't think iOS is limiting you, there's bound to be a crapload on eBay after the iPhone6 launches.
