Horrible connection issues

So for a long time now I've been using a little Asus wireless adapter (Asus USB-N13) but for the past few days my connection has been utterly horrid. It drops every few minutes, and when it works it will be unusably slow 90% of the time. The thing is that other people in the house don't seem to have any issues with dropping connection. Windows 7 will say "Limited internet access", "No internet access", or just drop entirely. So I was thinking maybe it's my wireless adapter being too slow; my modem is in the next room, about 4/5 metres between the usb and the modem with a wall in the middle. Should I buy a different USB/PCI-E adapter? Ethernet isn't an option.

Specs are on my profile page

Teach a man to fish and he ends up sticking a screw driver in a turned on power supply seeing if it still works.        #KilledMyWifeWithABomb            Resolution is just a number
