PCI wifi card is incredibly slow

Hi guys,

So I recently built my first PC and in order to connect to the internet I have a wifi card plugged into my motherboard.

There are 3 antennae type things that stick out the back of the case and can move around to get a better signal. I've tried many combinations of different directions and orientations of these antennae but I can't get a good signal.

The highest signal strength I've gotten is about 52%, which makes my download speed cap out at 1.1 mb/s. My average download speed is 2.5 mb/s.

Do you guys have any ideas in order to improve my signal strength? My PC is upstairs in my room and my router is a floor below me in the living room.

This internet is extremely slow and usually hovers around a 0.5 mb/s download speed which is absolutely horrendous.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sadly using wireless is not really ment to give you large download/upload speeds. It depends on many things such as wall thinkness and how far away from your access point you are. Are you on a diffrent floor? All these are factors you should think about before you fit a wifi card. Try to move yourself or the access point closer to each other in order to improve the connection.

On a 2nd note, try changing your access points wifi channel as this might help depending on what you set and other homes or high band wifi devices in the area hogging that channel and causing interference, the result low download speeds.

Your best bet, run a cable to your desktop or get a wifi extender to help boost your signal.
