Stuck on BIOS screen - Can't even enter it

Marxtai

Hello everyone,

so my friend finished installing everything in his new computer, everything was working fine and he used it for a day.

While he was playing the keyboard stopped working, the monitor lost signal for a second but it came back. The keyboard started working again, but only the desktop button would work.

He decided to reboot, and now he's stucked in the BIOS screen (press F2 or DEL to enter BIOS).

He rebooted again, but he's still stuck there and he can't enter the BIOs even while pressing/holding the F2 or DEL key like usual.

What could cause that? Could it be a component that is loose inside the case? A faulty hardware?

Thank you all for your help.

The BIOS could be faulty. Some Gigabyte boards have 2 BIOS chips, if you have one you could try switching to the other BIOS.

Sorry I forgot the specs :

- AMD FX-8320

- ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0

- 8GB of Kinston Fury RAM, 1600Mhz (2x4GB)

- EVGA GTX 760

- EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze

- Seagate Barracuda 1TB

- NZXT Source 210 Elite

Should I tell him to try a clear CMOS or removal of the BIOS battery?

THanks for the help!

You haven't tried that yet? Yes, ask him to remove the BIOS battery for 10 minutes. That should do the trick.

He PMed me yesterday night but he's in AB, it's too early and he's not awake at the moment so I'm gathering info for him while I can. :P

I'll tell him to try that, cheers.

Update

He unplugged everything, putted it back in and it worked now. It's still considerably slower (like, responsiveness and everything) than it used to be.

Would a BIOS update be a good idea? He didn't try to remove the battery yet - it worked without.

I'd suggest updating the bios since there have been 12 new bios releases for that board since the 8320 has been released..

Main: i7 2600 | ASUS P8Z68-V | 2x4GB Vengeance 1600 | GTX 580 | WD Blue 1TB | Antec TP-650C | NH U12S | W7 x64

Backup: X6 1090T | MSI K9A2 Platinum | 4x2GB XMS2 800 | GTX 550Ti | WD Blue 1TB |  Antec VP-450 | CM TX3 | W7 x64
