"Ice Pack" - H440 - R9 290X

catbutts

Hello again!

OUg0bKh.jpg

This build is for a friend who has been gaming on an old laptop since Aug 2011 and before that, an even more ancient desktop.

That's where the name of this build comes from: his laptop would overheat and artifact and in order to get back in the game, he'd toss an ice pack under it lmao

This is definitely a massive step up from his old setup. He shipped me all the parts and I went straight to building!

Parts list:

Case - NZXT H440

PSU - Corsair RM750

CPU - i5 4670K

Motherboard - ASUS Z97-C

RAM - 2x 4GB 1600

GPU - 1x R9 290X WINDFORCE

Storage - 1x 128GB SSD, 1x 2TB HDD

Cooling - Corsair H100i

A ton of parts came in the mail separately, but I finally got a picture of everything together

Lighting:

I really like the lighting on the back of the case. It feels subtle and not so overly done. The inside is a bit dark though--I think white LED fans in the front would look cool.

This totally looks awesome in daylight though:

Complete!

I'm using all the included case fans and this thing is surprisingly quiet.

I'm kinda sad that I don't get to keep this rig! :^(

Should have gone with Z97AR for color match :D

Otherwise +1

Aw that would've been perfect! I guess it's not on newegg though :(

The Z97-C was the closest thing to being all black I could find. Everything else was the usual black/red or black/blue that I'm pretty bored of haha

Actually the windforce editions are pretty good, linus did a build with them in crossfire so they cant be all that hot :)

I know, just making a joke considering the card's heat output :P

And the original Windforce cards had major issues since they were adapted GTX 780 coolers. The new ones aren't bad, but aren't that amazing compared to the competition.

Yeah, Windforce is a good cooler. My 770 has one, it does what it needs to do.

Yeah, Windforce is a good cooler. My 770 has one, it does what it needs to do.

i might get windforce 980's once they hit market (since theyre skipping 800's to "avoid confusion") depending mostly on how much vram they end up with

Not sure why everyone says "you should have got the Z97-AR"... they're only available at Micro Center which not everyone has access to

what colour pcb does it have, considering getting it along with a wi-fi card. In some shot i've seen it looks brown

it is black unless you hold a flash light up to it really really close then you can barely see the brown but if you want to see it in my rig here it is: http://imgur.com/a/6mDlv

That h440 is still a lovely case. Great for cable management too, you could make a non modular psu look neat in there!

i love it. that case is awesome and everything looks really nicely put together.  +1 on the winforce, my 760 is sweet.  (maybe you could have taken off the cooler shroud and painted it white though?  Just a thought.) :)
