How does steam gift email work?

I have decided to prank a friend with a gift and secret rick roll but I needed it to be a URL so I sent a gift email to a newly created email. If the link sent is clicked, does it validate with the email I made or the current signed in steam user on the pc?

It validates with a steam account associated with the email recipient. As far as i'm aware anyway.

basically it sends the game to them and it acts as if they bought it on steam it will show up in the notifications they can also refuse it and it will be returned to you

I am aware of that but I have never used the url sent to an email.
