GPU Block/Backplate and EK Single IO Brackets Black Chrome installed on R9 280X's - AMD didn't change the reference board design of the 280X from the 7970 it was pretty much a rebrand except for few board capacitor changes.

Test Fit of Cooling Lines Path ( I am not sure if I am sold on this) I may go for a cleaner look and do GPU to CPU to Rad and have 90 degree pipe the return line down the back of the case so it is very clean loop, but I don't want to loose to much in cooling doing that.

I love the White Case. Motherboard color may be color bad due to phone camera the room is orange/red and light is very yellow in room.

To Do

1. Reservoir needs it cables sleeved I have sleeving ordered will do that next week,

2. Heat shrink the case USB and Audio wires that pop out the bottom of the case they have to much exposed colored wires

3. Run all the PSU wires and zip them up for clean look

4. Finalize loop path and look

5. Run the LED lighting have 2M of it.

It will be behind smoked glass window that Phanteks case comes with so brown won't even be distinguishable and in person its not far off from light black with the brown really coming from the copper line "woven" in the PCB and I do have quite a bit of copper showing anyway in the GPU block. I swapped out the 90 Degree return swivel for fixed angle one lower profile and I recut the gpu/rad and rad/cpu lines for bit tighter look. This is my final route I tried the GPU to CPU to RAD to Reservoir and that didn't look symmetrical to the curve line below.

Some work completed this evening

I sleeved and heat shrinked the D5 Pump. First time and it was not bad after figuring out how to get the sleeving to move down.

That would be interesting, specially this case it would take a major sanding its got a nice glossy coat of white on the steel frame

Finished up the LED - Brightest Setting Panel is off with panel on you don't see the actual leds as the panel covers them except the bottom four that run over the radiator.

Going away for Labor Day with Wife and Kids so will start leak test Monday Afternoon most likely

I agree, I own the black version of the Primo, so I can see were you are coming from.

  • 4 weeks later...

This project got a major rework. While testing the MB I set a 4.6Ghz OC and bumped up the voltage and seemed to have killed my MSI Z77-G45 board. So I sold the guts of this plus another workstation.

New parts are i7-4790K, EVGA FTW Z97, Gkill Trident 2400Mhz DDR3 16GB, PrimoChill Reservoir, Corsair RM1000PSU. FrozenCPU custom PSU wiring Black/Red/White sleeving, Wire combs.

Prerunning lines before I take it apart for final assembly

IMG_20140924_231806779_HDR.jpg

Guess I will start a new thread for the final build pics when its done.

Air flow thru the bottom rad is really good, the fins are far apart and I actually don't have much room the pump is sitting right on top of the 90 deg fitting going out to the GPU block there is not room if I want good lines. I received my custom wire set from FrozenCPU I am waiting on the wire combs that are coming from england as I could source none in the US oddly. Now I have to disassemble run all the small items then reassemble in a very specific order so it all fits in and tuck and zip tie and fill her up.

To bad can't change the Post Title this thing ain't blue any more, lol.

Well wire combs came in from UK! finally E22.biz bit expensive due to shipping/customs wish these were state side because the made the wire pop. Leak test completed tonight I hope for OC testing and bench marking.

This build has gone on a weird path from where it started. When DX12 drops I will upgrade to 980's most likely in SLI till then the R9 280X will be fine for what I play.

Thanks!

OC set last night at 4.5 at 1.25V for CPU, R9 280X at 1085Mhz and 6300Mhz on DRAM. All stable on benchmarks I have done and Aida64
