PC makes too much noise in my opinion

Hello everybody,

Recently i've upgraded from a laptop to a decent pc which also functions as a "NAS" but not really. The PC is always on so I want it to be quiet, but it isn't yet. Here are the specs

Case:       Cooler Master Elite 110 with standard 120mm fan

CPU:        Intel i3-4150 with stock cooler

GPU:        EVGA GTX 750ti SC

MOBO:     ASRock B85M-ITX

PSU:        Corsair CX430

HDD1:      Seagate Momentus 500GB

HDD2:      Seagate Baracuda 2TB

HDD3:      WD ? 640GB   WD6400AAKS-22A7B0

The problem for me is that the machine makes too much noise and I couldn't really determine which of the components caused that noise.

I can only replace the stock cooler and the standard case fan, but does it do much against the noise?

I've looked at the Noctua NH-L9i as a replacement for the stock cooler but is it worth the money?

And what fan is a good replacement for the standard case fan?

Thanx in advance

Fieldhof

Might be all those spinners. HDD's can be rather noisy.

Other than that, just aim for quieter fans. If you don't OC it doesn't really matter what cooler you use.

Get Noctua fans. I don't know whether you need Static Pressure or Airflow, but their fans are whisper quiet.

Check your graphics card speed first, they tend to make the most noise. As for the CPU fan go into the bios and check what the speed is on the CPU fan.

The graphics card can't go any lower, it's stuck at 40%

The chassis fan speed is really low, like 250 RPM

The cpu fan speed is around 1000-1200 RPM

The sound I hear is more a high pitched noise than a humming sound

It might as well be the Hard drives as mentioned by dizmo, but I can't do anything about that I guess?

I have the Elite 120, and the default fan sorta sucked. I replaced it with a Noctua NF-P12 PWM, though given there's no HDD cage in the 110, I'd recommend the NF-S12A PWM. Seeing as there's only one case fan, it isn't a particularly costly upgrade.

Unfortunately, there isn't much space to fit a better CPU cooler in these cases, and I suspect that is the next loudest component. However, If you can get a good case fan, it should have to ramp up less often.

Try buying rubber grommets/mounts for your HDDs.

Sometimes that's where the noise is coming from.

In any case(pun), try to open up your case and find out where the noise is coming from.

Try plugging off some HDDs, some fans, the gpu, etc. Do many tests and you'll find out where that annoying sound is coming from and what needs to be changed.

The temps are not worrying or anything so I guess the cpu fan doesn't have to ramp up?

Already tried it, still can't figure it out

Have you tried MSI Afterburner and custom fan curve for GPU?

As for coil whine, its most likely from PSU and you can't do anything other than changing whole thing to get rid of it. For HDDs you can get noise reduction kits.
