Is 1440p noticeable?

RohanLeRoux

As the title implies, what are your impressions on 2560x1440p at a 27" scale, in terms of gaming? Would I notice a difference as I leap from a 23" 1080p monitor? Is 1440p worth the upgrade?

haha! I'm considering grabbing one of these https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=615737&CategoryID=502. In your opinion, do games look much nicer- in fact, are they DRASTICALLY better?

Well considering 1080p is about 2 million pixels and 1440p is 3.7 million its night and day difference

Makes you think 1080p is like standard definition

no comment on that monitor, I have seen no reviews of it yet (I normally use TFT Central, they commented saying it looked interesting, but benq are a great brand so I would still say go for it, other ones are the Asus pb279q and the AOC Q2770pqu)

A question. I have a gtx660 and I am playing on a 720p tv at 60hz.

Would I be better off just getting a 144hz 1080p monitor,

OR

Getting a new graphics card and waiting and getting a 1440p monitor?

Your better off getting a better graphics card as your current card will not be able to run max settings at that resolution at that frame rate.

My card won't run max settings at 1080p?

What does 1440p run at framerate wise?

Edit: Would my 660 run anything at 1440p? Money kind of limited, I'd have to wait about 2 or 3 months if I get the monitor first, then the better gpu.

i would say just wait alltogheter, so you get best gpu and monitor possible. gaming with r9 290 on 720p is super useless and wasteful

Worth it if your GPU can handle it other wise not worth the upgrade as quality or FPS drop can be noticeable and frustrating.

We can build it, we have the technology!

Yeah, I just cant decide whether or not I would be better off with a 1080p monitor or a 1440.

Your gpu can run max settings at 1080 but don't expect 144hz refresh. Or you can run low settings and get 144hz refresh. Your card is still pretty weak to expect everything out of it. You're better off upgrading your gpu first and then getting a better  monitor

The issue now is that I'm locked at 60hz at 720p on a 30 inch screen. It's big but the definition is terrible. I just want to be able to talk down to my console using friends lol.

For size I don't like anything less then 26" and while I normally use 1080p at home after getting my new rig at work with dual 27" 1440p monitors replacing my dual 27" 1080p's at home are now high priority, TBH more so for productivity then games, the extra real estate is just so nice to work on but we have games nights at work too and 1440p is definitely nice (always IPS/PLS too) just make sure you have the graphics power to run it too.

My personal sweet spot is 27" 1440p or 34" 3440x1440p (just waiting for the price on those to come down a bit :().
