PC crashes while playing games/stress testing GPU

Mario-
Hey LTT community

So I built a PC for a friend of mine a while ago, and now the Pc starts to crash while being under load.

I've tested the CPU with prime 95 before and it didn't have any problems whatsoever and was sitting at around 60°C all the time.

Then I started FurMark and after 15 minutes the PC crashed. The GPU was around 80°C most of the time.

I thought the problem was the GPU overheating, but it was running von 80°C constantly and the CPU as I sais was sitting at 60°C.

SO I opened the PC and noticed that the PSU was getting a little hot. So I removed the front cover to give it more airflow to cool, started FurMark again and after a few minutes it crashed again.

PC Specs:

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB

SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2

RAM: G.Skill 8GB DDR3-1333

GPU: Palit GTX 770 OC 2GB

MB: ASRock B75M-GL R2.0

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 412S

Case: BitFenix Prodigy M

PSU: Cooler Master G550M 550W

I don't really know what's up with the PSU, if it's overheating or overloading.

Thanks in advance for the help

It might be a driver issue, I had problems with my PC crashing when benchmarking when i had built it, using other drivers on the GPU might solve the problem, Might.

The driver is always up-to-date and there were several driver updates since the problem started so that's probably not it.

yea it seems to be the PSU trouble

that CM PSU is one of the low end series

while it say it supplies 550 watts

if you check the +12 volts amperage it actually much lesser'

the behavior is when the GPU ramps up and draw more power, the current drawn is way over the limit and the overcurrent protection kicks in and cause the crash

time to invest on a better PSU

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Alright. What PSU would you recommend for that system?

what is your max budget thou?

is a bit subjective

you can check jonnyguru for PSU reviews

EVGA, CoolerMaster V & VSM, Corsair,Seasonic

but you def need to look carefully the series as certain series are low end

Sory for the late reply, but I'm just wondering why the PC actually crashes?

I mean the Cooler Master PSU doesn't seem bad, and I haven't seen any bad ratings for it anywhere o:

For the upgrade I was looking at the Corsair CS550M (80Plus Gold).

Is this PSU really better? I mean, it costs almost exactly the same in my country.

it should be better

as mentioned before

when the GPU loads increase it draw more power than the PSU can handle and the PSU will pop

There is something wrong with this PSU either way.

I gave my friend my current (HCG Antec 520W) PSU for the time being and put his G550M into my rig.

MY PSU works in his rig just fine, even without underclocking anything.

I underclocked MY 560ti to 500MHz and it still crashes. I don't think this is normal, even if it was a badly designed PSU.

I'm gonna contact Cooler Master and probably send it back.

It clearly does not seem as bad as it performs.

So maybe I just had bad luck, maybe it IS a bad product. Let's see how this turns out.

Thanks for all the help though, appreciate it.

Edit: Turns out that the PSU Fan wasn't spinning the entire time... lol
