Define "better sensor" when relating to mice (G402 and G502 specifically)

YattaRX8

While searching around on google to find whether I should get a G502 or G402, knowing that most of the features on the G502 features are lost on me, I found a thread somewhere that stated the G502 would be a better purchase just for its sensor. I had already watched Luke's video featuring the G402, so I was confused by the "better sensor" comment.

I run my mice at 800dpi, so having access to higher dpi levels is irrelevant. If the G402 has no acceleration, and there are no tracking discrepancies when moving fast, what makes the G502's sensor better and is it actually relevant?

Well it's more accurate. but if they are Laser sensors i don't know how true that statement is.

At the risk of sounding pretentious I would like to ask if you would care to clarify what you mean by one being more accurate?

Say both mice are set to 800dpi with 6/11 windows sensitivity. If I moved both mice exactly two inches, one would get closer to moving exactly 1600 pixels than the other?

If you are playing at 800 dpi, and you need a mouse with a good sensor I suggest the Zowie FK1 http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?i=news&p=58

It uses an optical sensor with a really low liftoff distance so it is really nice for fps games. It is also very light and driverless.  It is currently the best mouse I have used.  I have the G502 and I can say that the mouse IMO is way too heavy for gaming.

I currently have a DeathAdder 2013 which is perfectly fine for gaming. I just randomly decided to try out my old MX518 again and found that I really think it's far more comfortable. I can't use it in FPS anymore 'cause I'm spoiled by the DeathAdder's minimal liftoff distance now. I figured if the G402/G502 felt similar to the MX518 it would be worth a buy. Plus the DeathAdder 2013's right click is so easy to trigger if feels like a feather might be enough to actuate it, which is annoying as hell.

More DPI doesn't have tracking isses at super high speed. I don't think its relevant unless you need above the 4000dpi of the G402.

The G502's sensor just feels more accurate in general, has no smoothing at any DPI step, no jitter at all, no prediction, less acceleration than the G402, and the sensor itself has a way better max tracking speed. I also find the shape, in particular the right side of the G502 way better than the G402. I also prefer the wheel on the G502, it just feels nicer to the touch, and I actually find that it scrolls more accurate when in "notch" mode, than the G402. My G402's wheel doesn't feel that defined, and I'm never if I have scrolled a notch or two. The weight of the G402 is better though, and I found the rubber on the left side a bit nicer to the touch, as it's not textured. The G402's sniper button is also better placed and shaped, and I had no issues with it. I have actually physically removed the sniper button on my G502, so I'm not bothered with it at all. But the G402's sniper button is actually nice as an extra button, as it's never in the way. The G502 has an extra button behind the "free spin mode" button though, so it makes up for it. The side buttons, DPI buttons etc. on the G502 feel nicer to click, as they're all Omron switches. The G402's DPI buttons are better placed IMO though, but I have no issues with the ones on the G502. The cord on the G502 is way better than the one on the G402. The G502 has the nicest braid I've ever seen, and is extremely flexible and light. The one on the G402 is very thick and stiff. The weight of the G502 is a problem for some, but as I palm grip and don't play competitive FPS with 4 m/s+ flickshots etc. I have no issues with it.

TL;DR I would choose the G502 over the G402, even though the G402 weighs a bit less.

So the G402 weighs less than the G502 even with no weights in it?

Out of all of the G502's extra features, the only one I care for is the braided cord. I actually prefer to have a mousewheel that doesn't tilt. And as neat as being able to switch how your mousewheel operates sounds, I don't think I'd actually ever use it. I also prefer the plainer look of the G402. If the G402's mousewheel feels similarly to the MX518's, I'd probably prefer the G502's notched wheel which looks like it feels similar to the DeathAdder 2013's. With that said, do you think it would still be worth it for me to get the G502?

Yea the G502 empty is already on the heavier side of medium. Which is why I don't understand the weights. They would make much more sense in a light mouse.

The G502's is probably the best stock cable I've seen and when setup right feels like its not even there.

I prefer the look of the G402 and I'm thinking the ergonomics as it looks a bit wider but I won't know that till I try it.

The mouse wheel won't feel the same as mx518 as its the same on that's on the G602 from what I can tell. The buttons to the left of left click look to be the same as well. No other mouse wheel I've used feels like the G502's in click mode. The click is so defined.

@maxvons is the G402's cable as cheesy as the G400(s)?

Not sure what you mean, but it's way more reinforced now. It's also very thick and stiff. Similar to the Rival, but stiffer

I would personally get the G502, and I think the extra price is worth it
