Would you give up Fibre internet for free rent?

Murdoch

So my company has just offered me a new position, much better job, more money and a rent free house onsite.

The catch is, it's got crappy internet, we're talking a 4mb adsl line. I can take the job without the house, but it will cost me around £750 (per month) rent for an equaivalent house in the nearest town.

So my question is simple, would you give up Fibre internet for free rent?

Personally I'm leaning towards no.

Depends on the money I loose and also the difference in speed. IDK what you will be making but it would need to be a lot for me to use 4Mbp/s adsl.

Can't you just get better internet at the house? Hell even getting 4g internet and just paying for the gigabytes of data would still be worlds cheaper than 750 pound a month.

Where I live there is only fiber.

So...it would make no sense.

Where's it at? If it's anywhere interesting I'd say hell yeah. There's more to life than the internet, and you can do mostly everything with a 4mbit/s connection (although everything might be 480p instead of 4K).

considering I'm currently on a 6mb adsl line, if it's a nice place I'd be down, but I really want fiber.........

I used to be able to watch 720p vid on YT with my 1.5 megs connection so yeah 4mbit is enough for most things that isn't 1080p 60fps video.

Do it.

Take that money and either pay someone to run a line for you or get some fancy ass internet beamed to your house and run two connections, using your slow line for ping sensitive situations (i.e. any multilayer game)

Can you buy better internet?

Nope, that's the best there is. Also i've been there before 3g and about 1Mb is the best I'd get using mobile.

In terms of where it is, it's in a rural area in the north of scotland. but only about 30 mins drive from a pretty large town (with Fibre).

Have you tried calling your or another ISP to ask about laying business fibre (different to consumer fibre) for you. Most likely have to pay for it to be done. but it could mean you get fibre to the new place.

Probably a bit pricey, but look into it.

You might have to prove your a business customer, just get a business number or whatever it is called in your country and jus say you sell stuff on ebay or something, make it sounds semi-believable though.

Take the free rent and higher pay, it's the logical option.

Try to live with the Internet. If it is that bad, see if a company would be interested in laying down a faster line there or see if you can pay for faster internet.
