SSD almost full

Wano97

I don't know why, but something's eating/using a lot of storage, and I don't know what. Maybe it's the cache or something, I'm not sure. I deleted a lot of files and I had 2.7GB left on my SSD, without doing anything but gaming I used 600MB of space. What might be doing this?

Might be a totally irrelevant question, but just making sure.

Pagefile and Hibernation file are two of the biggest causes of wasting SSD space.

Aaaand this is why I recommend a 256gb over a 120 all the time. Windows is just crazy. Having to babysit your C: drive to keep things moving is just a total aggravation.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

how often does this fill up to the point of almost being full? Because you've gotten rid of the files but you're clearly still worried about it...

Yeah I regret buying a 120GB one, a LOT

I don't know, I'm trying to remove applications or move them over to my 1TB drive to free some space, but it keeps filling up like nothing. I guess because of updates etc? I don't know

Why I waited for the prices to drop a good ammount before I switched, coming from a 500gb hdd a 128 would not cut it (laptop)

the Crucial m500 240GB is perfect for me.

Only used 89GB so far.

Gonna try this right now, I'll do anything to not have to worry too much about having free space on my SSD

Hibernation file is pretty much pointless and frees a fair amount of space. As for the pagefile, it will take how much ram you have and create the equivalent amount in virtual memory if you let Windows handle this automatically. That's an additional 16GB of space on your SSD wasted on top of that. It's best not to disable the pagefile out right and just make it small like 1-2GB at most.

Won't it have any consequences deleting the pagefile? Like, nothing at all?

@Mooshi This hibernation file used 13 GB, damn...

For Pagefile, some programs might whine about virtual memory so I just keep mine 1024-2048 to avoid any random issue. Some people disable it all together, though.

Even when you have 16GB of Ram?

Some programs might give issues, not common, but eh. Giving 1-2 gigs to avoid any issue at all isn't so bad compared to all the space being eaten before and I also have 16GB with a small pagefile.

I just rebooted my PC, and the hibernation thing is back I suppose because I'm back to 4GB of space

Nah it's not the hibernate file. It couldn't even find the hibernate fily after trying to delete it

Edit: Nvm pagefile.sys is taking 16GB now, I think that's where it all went, since it only used like 5GB before reboot

Try setting the custom pagefile again and hit apply. If that is still giving issue, you can disable it all together. if your system is running fine with it disabled, no need to worry about it.

Try this out as well http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/
