24/7 Media Server

jem.graham

Hey guys,

So recently I put Ubuntu server on an old dell pc and I'm now using it as a Plex Media Server.

My question is how good for the pc is it having it on 24/7.

Thanks,

Jem :)

24/7 is generally fine if you add in some sleep cycles where the pc shifts into low power mode when not in use, such as the household is  asleep .

Yep, plus honestly, Linux will treat the PC a little better while on 24/7 use. You're less likely to get those occasional glitches or lockups that some older PC's suffer from when running 24/7.
