Refurbished Graphics Card?

So I was going to invest in a GTX 780 Superclocked, I am buying it from Newegg, but it is refurbished. Its $50 less than a non refurbished, should I try it, or just pay the extra $50, Which I would like to save? Any help is appreciated.

I would stay away from used stuff. If you want to save that $50 and still get the performance of a GTX 780 you should buy a R9 290.

I'm sure the OP is sure on his decision, but I agree that second hand computer components should be avoided unless the only way to get them is second hand.

Lots of EVGA cards are refurbished even some of there "new" ones... There a terrible company there cards often break but most people just ignore it cause there customer service is really top notch; There RMA process is relatively painless and they usually upgrade cards for free (TO refurbished ones they can't sell) and There old cards they just fix them as cheaply as possible and mark them refurbished and for sale again...

Edit: I just realized I didn't answer the question just go ahead and trust it it's marked refurbished not used meaning it should still have warranty and such... and its not like ALL the newones are guaranteed to last long either

will likely be a card someone sent back through the trade up program... although for a 780 Ti Its possibly a review sample they got back that has been tested and repackaged. unlikely to be a defective card that was fixed, for only 50 dollars off that would be highway robbery for any major repairs.

It's like buying 2nd hand virginity.

"It was sort of already broken once, but we fixed it!"

Again, was this based off of one or two bad experiences that you've had with EVGA or are you actually quoting this from their ratings thing? Because EVGA are a highly-renowned company known for making top-notch computer components.

I would say stay away from it. I had a 50/50 with my graphics card after buying a 270 on ebay. Guy was a total ass and the card ended up DOA. I still have it, I use it as my coaster like Logan, but I did get refunded after opening a case... I railed that guy so damn hard. then I got my other graphics card, which was pulled from a mining rig and actually works perfectly. Dead silent under load and quite cool as well.

Unless you're a huge risk-taker, like Linus said, you're better off saving your pennies.

So My 290 replacement after I RMA'd is a refurb? good to know, Probably explains why it overclocks like a sundial (garbage cooler aside).

I'm basing it off products I bought NEW directly off newegg from newegg... And the customer service rep(from EVGA) even told me xD and just look on the Forums plenty of people have had terrible issues with EVGA and the only thing that doesn't make EVGA a terrible company is BADASS customer service which I can't deny... But unless I plan to use the Step up program or some other reason I avoid EVGA since then

Don't buy refurb products, if you're gonna spend $500+ on a video card, $50 isn't a huge amount in the grand sceme of things anyway.

I bought my 780 refurbished saved a lot more than $50 at the time. Have no problems with it; runs fine, overclocks great. Only problem with it is it only comes with a 1 year warranty.

If $50 is a lot of money saved for you, then go for it.

Thank you all for the input. I think I am going to buy it non refurbished just in case. Does anyone know how long the warranty lasts with an EVGA 780? I am buying it off of Newegg.
