Razer Updates Orbweaver with "their" switches.

Just saw the below post in my facebook feed:

RazerOrbweaverKalithSwitchUpdate.png

http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-orbweaver?src=pgm.81594800&utm_source=Razer_Social_Media&utm_medium=smlink_US_launch&utm_campaign=razer_orbweaver

So basically the orbweaver got updated with the cheaper switches their other mech boards use and they gave in the braided cable from the tartarus that it should have had originally. They dont happen to mention the cable's length though which is a real shame as the original isnt even 6ft which is what I consider to be average. Also if they would have reduced the cost in the saving they got on the switches this would have been the product to do it as the price is a turn off to many.

All of us probably saw this coming. Either way to those interested get the genuine Cherry switch ones while you still can.

Razer, I don't think that word means what you think it  means. I believe the word you were looking for was "downgrade".

Please dont quote the OP, especially as the first reply.

And yes I do as its a good way to get info like this and well one of the only ways to stay in touch with certain friends. Also I never use it for login's as I dont trust it.

This.  Facebook is for stalking and logging into things.

Regarding the random-ass cluster of buttons.  What is the point of that? Why can't people just use normal keybinds like the rest of us. Razer is phasing out third party key-switches and going with their own.  Makes sense.

"downgrade".

Not necessarily true, the razer switches are rated for 6 million presses, vs 5 million for the cherry mx

Also they have altered the actuation points to suit gaming better

...although that is something said and may not be necessarily true, and while I love Cherry MX switches, that is not to say they cannot be improved upon

I agree but I wouldnt mind the downgrade as long at the price came with it as it would make it considerably more accessible even at say $99.

Eh, I still don't trust their new switches. Also, they're cheaper to manufacture and they don't pass on the savings to the customer, at all.... It's more of a downgrade than an actual upgrade from cherry MX.

Its one thing buying their keyboards for the cherry mx blues.  Its another thing having Razer make absolutely everything.  No freaking way do I trust Razer to make super good switches.

"random-ass cluster of buttons" which button are you referring to exactly?

its all marketing BS. Its a knockoff switch that they only starting using now because they wouldnt be violating any patents. Those slight changes are there so they they are not literal exact copies which would put them in hot water still. Cherry MX switch have not really changed for longer than you have been alive for good reason. Also a small change like that would not make a drastic improvement. Actually since its fractions of a mm most people dont notice and probably wouldnt if they tried to.

Ah Razr, in case anybody missed the constant controversy that we used to have from Alienware back in the day, you're certainly up to the task carrying that flag.

Razer tends to pull a lot of their marketing info out of thin air to lure in unsuspecting Bambis who want to game better without obtaining any skill. So, their words should be taken with a grain of salt. When I think of Razer, quality components is not something that comes to mind. And I would know, I've used quite a few of their products before understanding who their target market is and how quickly their products degrade.

I've got a razer mouse, the one with 12 buttons on the side, seems to be a nice mouse to me *shrugs*. I do wish I could turn those buttons completely off in games like battlefield 4. Nothing worse than trying to turn and hit an enemy at close quarters, only to accidentally hit the number 5 button and whip out some useless thing and get killed.

Ive had good products from them but its generally their mice and lately mousepads. The orbweaver is great and so is the sabertooth but the onza te as much of an improvement as it was it fell apart in your hands. Also aparently their fighting sticks are quite good.

That's pretty much the experience I've had with them. My original Deathadder is the only razer product I have left that hasn't completely fallen apart. They make some pretty good mice. Their keyboards and headphones don't have the best track record so I cringe a bit at the thought of their keyboard components being put in a mouse that already works fine with MX cherry switches.

Probably, if I had the razer software installed. Never saw a point to it. Just turned the mouse acceleration off in windows (it was pretty bad). I don't play much mmo lately so probably don't even need a mouse with this many buttons. Never used them when I did play swtor lol, always preferred point and click.

I also have the chiclet style motherboard. Wish I hadn't wasted the money, stupid best buy >.< Only got it cuz led's

their synapse program isn't that bad, i just have it to control sensitivity better that any windows option could and disable the breathing mode on my deathather, also the online sync is a nice bonus since i don't have to reconfigure it every time i format windows

I dont use a game boardjust as a macro keyboard, I use it as a whole WASD keyboard replacement

Especially for when I take my laptop to LAN, I can sit my laptop on the desk and have a gamepad and mouse which are more comfy than having one hand on the laptop keyboard all raised up and awkward

Yeah, but not by cheaply manufactured Chinese garbage. German Engineering + Manufacturing > (x10^infinity) Chinese crap
