i7 4770 vs i7 4770k vs i7 4790 vs 4790k

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

Just searched but Xeon E3 would be out of the question since it isn't available in my Country :/

In that case the I7-4790 if you will not OC, a 4790K if you will OC.

Hi Guys!

So I'm on my first build and I'm just finalizing on what to choose for my processor. I'll either get a Corsair Hydro 105, Kraken X60 or H220 for cooling (whatever fits my budget). I'll mainly use my PC for Video Rendering and Encoding, Photoshop and Fireworks, Desktop Recording as well as Gaming.

Unbiased opinions or facts are very much appreciated! Thank you!

I74790k if you are overclocking, otherwise the 4790 or the Xeon E3-1231 V3.

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Thanks but I'm not open for other Processors if I'll have to change my MoBo, already bought a Maximus VII Ranger.

The xeon 1231 v3 is LGA 1150 contrary to popular beliefs concerning xeons.

I see, I'm not familiar with Intel processors. This'll be my first Intel PC so I haven't heard much of Xeons. Why would you recommend it?

If you do not OC then a xeon E3 will perform just as well as an I7 at a lower price

I'm kinda on a pinch on those two. Don't know whether to get the K or the non-K since I don't plan to overclock (just yet?) but I want all the performance I can get since this build has become quite a big investment for me and I just want it to "Perform" if you know what I mean.

If you do not plan to upgrade anytime soon then go with the K yeah. Should you decide to OC later then it will be a more solid investment.

Seems a good idea but will it really "perform", hahaha. I've been on this roundabout question for me since the price here for the 4790k translates to $415, lol.

It'll be a year or so before I change Processors and Boards my GPU will be the next that I'll change.

If you upgrade again in another year then I suggest the 4790k since they are more sale-able due to the fact that it can OC quite easily and quite far.
