Hulk
Go to solution Solved by Hulk,

I've gone ahead and purchased the 700D. Thanks for all the help guys! :)

Hello!

I will be buying an entry level DSLR soon and am deciding among these four options. Which of these would be the better for taking high quality photos of nature. I will be using the zoom function a lot, so I would appreciate it if that was kept in mind when making a suggestion. :)

Canon EOS 600D

Canon EOS 700D

Canon EOS 60D

Nikon D5200 (with AF-S 18 - 55 mm VR Kit + Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikko)

If you have a better suggestion in the price range of these camera, please share them in the comments.

Thanks! :D

It comes with the EF-S 18-135 MM II LENS as a default. Is that good?

For starting off, yes. But I would diffidently invest in a flash, macro lens and a telescopic one too

Thanks for the recommendation! By the way, how should I be comparing the cameras; what makes the 60D better than the other choices?

There's alot to think about when buying a new camera.

Have you any lenses already from a certain company/brand?

Have you any experience with dslr before?

You say entry level camera and link 3 mid range ones with the 600D enrty level.

Getting into photography aint cheap, you will have to pay for the field you want to shoot...

Camera body/macro lens for insects/zoom for distance shots/tripod or mono pod/case to carry your camera and lenses/a good memory card or 2, plus maybe some other stuff that takes your fancy.

Then you have post processing software again the best ones aint cheap, and if you do want to PP these need a fairly new operating system and a reasonably specced pc to run smoothly. Oh and nice monitor too (ideally colour calibrated to with something like xrite color monki display or spyder4) because if u do PP on a poo monitor, when you print the colours will be off same thing when you see your pics on another monitor, compared to how you post processed them.

I would get the Nikon 5200 out of the ones you linked as it has more focus points and has more mega pixels so you can crop a bit more in post processing.

Any other cameras to look at? Nikon 3200 or the 3300 stand out off the top of my head.

I also recommend going to your local camera shop to see which camera feels better in your hands.

Have a look at digital photography review website there is a wealth of info over there, they also have a good comparison thingy there too, also helpful forums too.

The Canon hundreds (eg 600D) and thousands (1000D) are for consumers and the tens (eg 60D) are for enthusiasts and ones that (eg 7D) are for prosumers and pros.

I'd go 60D if it's the one with the 18-135. That lens will do you fine but the 50mm f1.8 is a great secondary lens because of the wide aperture which means you get more background blur than the 18-135 provided you are using f1.8-3.2 on the 50mm. Also you'll want a bag and a tripod.

it's not the body that is of more importance but the person who takes the picture, and then the lens.

I recommend the D5200 more autofocus points higher resolution but the ISO is not as high but do you need to photograph in low light if so go for the canon 60d check out my detailed post for first D-SLR choice in another post in this section it's called "Photography Buying Guide" my detailed post is on the second page

I'll always say that lenses play a bigger role than the body so I suggest to get a "cheap" body (Nikon D5300 - http://www.flipkart.com/nikon-d5300-dslr-camera/p/itmdxhha649whyuf?pid=CAMDR82NFS95MG4K&srno=b_9&ref=f7607b27-4498-410e-860f-5b80f4bc518f) and pair it with some good lenses: Nikon 35mm F1.8 (http://www.flipkart.com/nikon-af-s-dx-nikkor-35-mm-f-1-8g-lens/p/itmcxgeqhjvz8qeb?pid=ACCCXGEQHJVZ8QEB&srno=b_1&ref=c8801f3a-3741-4489-9d57-22bab0a53864) and Nikon 55-200mm VR (http://www.flipkart.com/nikon-af-s-dx-vr-zoom-nikkor-55-200-mm-f-4-5-6g-if-ed-lens/p/itmcx3sgrhsrgthz?pid=ACCCX3SGRHSRGTHZ&srno=b_2&ref=846378ab-d75c-4747-aff3-c226a668d579). Those plus the kit lens should get you up and running. You'll get 2 decent zoom lenses (18-55 and 55-200) and a nice fast prime (35 F1.8) all for less then 60000Rs

I would suggest getting one of the cheaper cameras (I'd go with Canon, but that's just me) and then getting a really nice zoom lens and macro lens. Look for maybe a 75-300 and a 50 f1.4. Also, get some ND filters, especially for nature.
