If you had to buy pre built desktops....

Dell workstations. 'Nuff said. They are indestructable.

Care to test your theory? :P

Apple

Asus

HP

*If Sony still made PCs* then also Sony

Asus and HP would lose their Windows and get Ubuntu goodness

Apple would keep OS X while "bootcamping" Ubuntu. Even though OS X is more tolerable than Windows...

If Windows 7 wasn't going to be obsolete in the coming years I'd do Windows 7 instead of what replaces it. Unless W9 continues that good bad Microsoft has been doing.

-___- I know that Ubuntu is by Canonical which is from the Isle of Man, UK and is not related to Microsoft or Apple... I prefer Ubuntu just because it's free it looks good and works well...

because i have a girlfriend who's good at yelling and getting prices down.

If your going to buy a pre-built system, I would definitely go with apple as the user experience is much simpler and easy to use; the only real benefit to buying a prebuilt IMO

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

I actually purchased my current PC from Digital Storm. Cannot recommend it more. It works phenomenally, and has yet to have any problems whatsoever. I simply did not have the time to build it when I had the money, and buying it from them was the best option I could have gone with.

Something, something, something, famous quote, computer specs, and stuff...

I think it all depends on what you're looking to do with it.  I mean if you're not looking for a gaming pc, or you don't do video/photo editing what's wrong with any model Dell or whoever.  But if you want pre-built for gaming then yeah, any that have already been mentioned like Alienware or Digital Storm.  Just keep in mind you'll be paying a premium for them building it vs yourself, and you'll really overpay a lot if you seek top tier products from them.

Older 2006-2008 HPs using the AMD processors; those had Asus motherboards from the M2N series and I owned one that survived 2 power surges and daily gaming abuse for 6 years. Apart from the absolutely shit PSU, it was a great system. Especially after upgrading the GPU.

I miss you HP A1268C

Other than that, nothing unless I build it.

Eric S. Raymond used an E6600 from 2005 until 12/30/14 or open source software creation. Raw data computations in excess of 18GB each. Core 2 Duos still have tons of life left, my friend.

Digital Storm. If I had the money I'd buy one from them even if I could build my own, they're simply beautiful and the craftmanship that goes in them is outstanding. They're almost completely built by hand and fully customizable. The others aren't even CLOSE.

Otherwise possibly a dell workstation, I hear they're pretty good for professionals.
