Why is an SSD considered somehow a must in upcoming builds?

razak3l

Why?

Because once you get used to a computer with one in it, you can never go back.

It speeds up load times and boot times but other than that they do nothing. I don't think you should add an SSD as long as you can get a tangible amount of performance for the price of an SSD.

Because the amount by which it speeds up EVERYTHING you do, is completely ridiculous. Seriously, it's an enormous difference. Even if it's just the OS on the SSD. It makes everything fast fast fast.

If you'd only ever watched TV in black and white. you'd probably be perfectly happy with that.

But then colour TVs come out, and you see TV in colour... You'd never want to watch black and white again.

Nothing will stop working if you don't have one, so it's not a 'must'. But they sure are nice though!

Because no one should wait 5 minutes for a bloated Adobe application to even launch.

Because they no longer cost an arm and a leg and their performance is amazing and completely worth the money.

They only cost a hand now! :D

Soooo fast. I just threw an SSD in an older PC I had and it's incredible how much it helps.

Everyone boasts about boot time but TBH that's the least of it for me, everything is just faster. The most annoying thing for me is going to explorer to use my storage drive (WD blacks in RAID 0 - a single black was doing my head in) and having to wait while it spins up to load the file tree :( and simultaneous access makes HDDs cry.

As others have said, once you get used to them you cant go back... it would be like trying to go back to a 15" monitor or 720p, all good when that's all you've used but damn near imposable once you've gone to a 27" 1440p monitor.

So why does my computer boot off a hdd in less than that on Windows 8.1? I literally just thought 8 had faster boot times and that's why my computer boots so fast.

Only a complete noob gets an SSD just for boot times. You get them for work flow and fast system response. I'll even be so bold as to say they are only so-so worth it for gaming. Unless the game is unoptimized trash, games don't feel that dramatic between running off my hard drive or ssd.

First off, calling people noobs I offensive and unnecessary. Don't u remember your mom telling you if you have nothing nice to say don't say it?

Secondly, I'm not debating the fact that an ssd is good or bad or whether it effects boot and load times enough, I was just asking why I boot so fast.

Thirdly, not everyone has money to buy ssds.

First off, I'm adopted so GG.

Second, nothing offensive was even said towards /you/, if anything I was on /your/ side in regards to your comment of Win 8.1 booting fast regardless and that people are terribly misguided if they want an SSD for that reason alone of boot times.

Third, no one said anything about who can and can not afford them. In fact, SSDs are dirt cheap now compared to what I had to drop for mine a few years ago.

I kinder forget I got an SSD, until my mother asks me to help her on her packard bell laptop and it takes forever to do anything.
