Help 3D max rendering slow on desktop

hello im useing a fx 9370 and a r9 290 with 32gb of ram. however the desktop renders slower than my ASUS G75V. i know this should not be the case. i think it might be because 3dmax is not useing my gpu but i am not sure. can some one help me trouble shoot?
